I found some new rust on my car yesterday, One spot is where the doors mount onto the frame piece. Another is where the weatherstrip is for the door. And another spot is where the headers are on the shock tower. All the spots look like surface rust and are not all the way through. However the shock tower spot has a seem that is pulling away from the tower.

Wich should i take care of first? As the car is my daily driver I can tackle one at a time. Im really concernd about where the door mounts up, when i saw that How do i stop it?

get a wire wheel and start grinding. if it is only surface rust it should come right off. then prime it and seal it with some rattle can paint to match. if it's inside the door jamb and you are careful it should blend and not be too noticeable.

I'm doing a body swap becuase of these same problems. I watched my shock tower go from surface rust to a rot hole in 3 years. Get on it. Your gonna have to cut out the rust to really get rid of it. The only real way to get rid of rust is to sand blast to get ALL the pits out. Rust is a huge pain in the ass.

It seems the fox shock tower rust is starting to become an issue, mines beginning to rust. They don't make replacement shock towers like for the classics. I think this is going to become more and more of a hot topic in a few years.

If Ford would've put a cover over that area in the wheel well to keep the moisture and dust out might have helped, and being riddled with holes doesn’t help either.

I think heat from headers also is a factor too. It didnt start to rust that fast until I put my bassani equal lengths which comes withit a quarter inch of the shock tower. It would not be hard to fix, I just plain dont want to deal with it, so I went and bought a clean 88 LX four cylinder TTOP car.
