found an 86 vert that i want bad(roof problem)

i found an 86 auto vert with a bad tranny.it's white with a black stripe on the hood. it has been sitting outside with the top down and uncovered. somebody said the top stays down. would it be hard to open and close the top by hand. what usually goes out to make the top not go up and down. i am going to offer 150-200 bucks for it if it has a clear title.

Jammed/broken linkage. Also the hydrolic system. Most convertables have a way to disconnect the actuator so you can use it by hand.

I saw a 5.0 foxbody in the autotrader for about $1200 that 'Needs top" as the major flaw, would buy it just to fix, just don't have $1200.

Considering how much it'll cost to fix it, I'd pass. Those cars are a dime a dozen and around here you can pull several a day out of people's back yards just sitting broke down. Most say their not worth fixing, even if its something little like a starter or such. Good luck with it.

i got a tranny for it, i just have been waiting for a vert for a long time. the roof isn't a problem, i don't need it really nice looking but driveable, and good enough to cruise in, which it is. the interior is not ruined yet. i really don't think it will cost all that much to fix the roof. not sure if i am going to put the 5 spd. in it or just fix the auto tranny.

Not sure I would put much stock in the advice of a guy thst doesnt think an 86 that needs a starter isnt worth saving. I would like to visit this mustang fantasy land where such cars are a dime a dozen.

If you can get it for a couple hundred bucks, especially if its a V8 car, grab it. If the body is totally rotten and it's a V6 car I might consider passing on it unless it had plenty of usefull parts on it.
