Upon installing a AFM, I pulled off the inner plastic under the front passenger side quarter panel to check out the room I had. I found a black box with about 10-15 wires connecting to it. The reason I want to know what it is, is because I had to move it in order to cut and fit my piping. It's a black box, roughly 3'' x 4'', and is mounted to a little metal plate. Thanks for the help.

that black box is the CCRM, it's a 4 function relay that controls the EEC, coolant fan, A/C clutch and fuel pump

So the CCRM is just a box with four relays in it? I always figured it had a couple modules in it at least and was packed with electronics in addition to relays...

What year did ford start using the "black boxes" that record your speed, brake application, acceleration, RPM etc that could be read and used in court to figure out what happened prior to an accident or whatever? Specifically in Mustangs...

so it's the ccrm... this might be a silly question, but the two screws that hold it to the frame, are those grounds? When I repositioned it, I could only attachment one of the screws. Wondering if this will be a problem.

If the case is plastic, then probably not. Check to see if there's any metal connections (tabs, wires) where the screws are.

no they are not grounds, I have mine mounted on those rubber/studded insulators on mine to keep the CCRM from any "heat soak"

I know that they weren't able to do that through 2004. I don't know about the new Stangs though, I would guess with their advanced computers, they do have a black box.

Elaborate on this, because GM was using them in some vehicles since the mid 90's.

I still haven't put mine back inside the fenderwell, i left it right next to the intake pipe. Too much of a PITA to re-install or check again.
