Fox bodies vs. 94-95 5.0s

How much faster is a fox body 5.0 than a 94-95 5.0 when stock. Is a stock, say, hatchback GT as fast as a 94-95 Cobra stock? Thanks

it ends up being a drivers race, cobra has an advantage though
both are around 14.2 or so

Isnt a hatchback GT a TAD bit lighter than a 94-95 GT? I would think a 94-95 cobra would be able to handle a Fox GT unless the driver sucked.

Dave(rootus) just made a post in the other thread sayin he had a 90 GT and used to always race a friend who had a 94 GT vert....and dave used to only pull on him slightly. So i think that a 94-95 cobra coupe would be able to handle the fox.

I think a equal race between gt's or cobras would be a drivers race. Miixing gt's with cobras would make it more of a car race IMO...but obviously the drivers would still play an important role.

i have always been told (and seen) that the 94-95 SN95s were pretty slow compared to the Fox Bodies, because of the weight difference...i don't have any literature on the SN95's but i'm sure someone here does...

thats what id heard too...i mean basically same motor, more weight, more air restriction, and cut timing means slower times than fox bodies, unless i was told wrong

Well .... what are the hp ratings for the Fox's? I know for the 94-95 GT, it's 215. And 240 for the Cobra's. Plus, there's a few modernized things that count for a little bit of power (i.e. electric fan). The weight isn't that much of a difference (at least between a hatchback GT and a GTS).

Thats the thing...there are how many different "fox bodies" with a 5.0? Are you talking about a lx knotch back? Are you talking about a hatchback? Or are u talking about a GT with the body kit and extras? YES. The lx knotchback is probably a good amount lighter. But i just said the GT is just a tad bit lighter...and im pretty sure its not light enough to make up for the extra power a cobra gives a 94-95.

Depends on which models you are looking at. Cause im sure the 94-95 GTS models would run right along with the fox's. Not all fox's are created equal and depending on which one is the race, will determine the exact weight difference.

Good point on the electric fan. I would compare a hatcback GT to a 94-95 GT. Wouldnt the 94-95 GTS be closer to the LX hatchback and knotchback? But im not sure on the exact weight differences. Only thing i know for sure is that yes, a lx knotchback is a good bit lighter than a 94-95 GT.

It just depends....

The difference between your standard fox and standard sn95 is not big at all.

The 94/95 Cobra would be able to pull on them. Upgraded heads, roller rockers, intake and some other trinkets.

The 94-95 cars do have an electric fan but also a more restrictive upper intake trac.

The sn95's HP rating was more of a marketing ploy in my opinion. They dyno virtually the same as a "fox"...

94-95 GTS: 3280lbs curb weight
94-95 GT vert: 3451
and well shoot, i stand corrected. Atleast on edmonds...every single Fox model is under 3000 curb weight. They have the 94-95 GT listed as the same 3280 as the GTS.

So...hmmm....yea. I guess at the very least they have 200lbs on us...if not more depending on their model. But like Dave said, his 90 GT would barely pull on his buddy's 94 Vert...so who knows what would happen if his buddy had a coupe cobra. I would think the cobra would win.

My foxbody weighed (full weight) 3180lbs when it was "factory". That had the smog delete (only weight reduction per say).

Weighed friends 95 gt (stock as stock can be)...it weighed 3360lbs with more gas in his tank than I had.

Friends 00 GT weighed 3337lbs with the same amount of gas.

In general yeah they would be closer (aka. heavier).

That is another misconception on the fox side of things. Many think the Gt model is so much heavier than the lx. The only thing the Gt has on it worth anything is the bar support for the foglights and the "extended bumpers" (those are light though).

Here's the best data I can provide:

The following times are when the cars were completely stock:

My dad's 91GT: 14.6 at 94mph, weight w/o driver 3190lbs

My cousin's 94GT: 14.8 at 93mph, weight w/o driver 3350lbs

My '95GT 'vert: 15.2 at 90mph, weight w/o driver unknown in stock form.

These numbers are all from the same track, but on different days.

I have a 95 GTS, I "raced" versus my friend with a 92 GT and he clearly won.
so the weight diff with GT\GTS isnt that much

Drivers effect a lot...and the stock gears make differences as well...transmission as well.

ya, i missed the 3rd when we "raced" and anyway i'll have a very good comparaison this summer because I will have the 3.73s and o\r h-pipe in. he will have u\d pulleys, all exhausts.. he should win again but should be closer.. i hope.
