hey all,

I picked up an 89 saleen which the previous owner repainted the body and replaced the stickers. But I noticed they're the older version.

trying to get advice...should i leave them, replace them or just leave them off? I know it's my car and I can do what i'd like but just trying to gather opinions.

i already took off the windshield banner and will get the newer one

I would leave it unless you plan on a repaint. My car is at the body shop as we speak. just doing some touch up. One of the touch ups was to restripe it. Well, they spent a lot of hours getting the old stripes off. it is a major PITA.

they finally got the ones on the front and rear spoilers. they are repainting them and restriping along with painting the jams and a few other little things.

the wouldn't even touch the door stripes unless I wanted them to go down to bare metal.

I would leave it.

Even though your car is running the 87-88 stripes and windshield banner it won't change the value or anything. she looks really clean. Where in So Cal are you? Those cinderblock walls look very familiar.

FYI, the 89-93 stripes are a pain to install and remove. I personally like the 87-88 stripes better.

I would do one thing though. Get a couple of new RACECRAFT decals for the fenders. They need to be a little lower. like this.

The first '89 Saleens DID have the 3 stripe lower graphic and the Saleen Mustang windshield banner. When 1989 #86 was bought it had 5 star American wheels, silver 3 stripe lower graphic, and the Saleen Mustang windshield banner. Liz was called at Saleen and she confirmed that this car was at the transition period for the change over, it got '89 wheels but not graphics.

What number is your Saleen? Is it close to #86?

Your car also has a 1990 - up front air dam, noticable by the "fangs" at bottom just inside the side scoops. The 1987 - 1989 was smooth across the bottom.

oh i didnt know they were that major of a pita to remove. well forget that! lol

marcus95 that was a pic from the previous seller who lives in el monte. it's now in orange county. Thanks for the tip on the racecraft stickers. that one should be easy.

it's #52 and I spoke to someone else who handled the registry at Saleen telling me it was a no option car. The windshield seems to be original on my car and there was the ghost image of the newer Saleen banner etched into the glass. Also my gauge cluster has the newer Saleen logo too vs. the "saleen mustang" one.

seller told me that he did replace the front bumper.

Congrats.

You can still find an 87-89 front valance. No big deal.

I owned 89-0028, white. It was a stripe delete like this car below however the stripes shipped inside the hatch were the 10 stripe and the S A L E E N banner was on the winsheild. Gary is correct though as you never know what Saleen was going to do from one car to the next back in the day. Whatever they had on hand was the norm. Hell, I even helped make a few of those decisions back then in Long Beach.

Good luck with her. She looks really clean and nice it stayed in So Cal.

thanks guys for the welcome. it's getting a gt40 crate motor put in w a tremec 600 tranny. I hope I get it back this week. Omg I went too crazy in mods so this is a keeper. I had a 89 stang 9 years ago. I missed out on a killer deal for an ssc back then too. I was always hoping to find a fox body so it's gonna stay with me.

I used to own 89-0408 & it, too, was a stripe delete with the decals delivered to the dealer in the hatch area. For the first year or so I kept it that way because I preferred the monochrome white look. Then my next door neighbor decided to purchase a white '89 coupe with the stripe delete so I had the stripes installed to differentiate our respective Saleens.

Anyway, your car is also missing the accent pinstripe that runs along the upper body character line in addition to the other items that have already been pointed out.

congrats on the car. it may have come with 87-88 lower decals. not all foxes got that upper body pinstripe. some did, some didnt. i don't like that upper body pinstripe anyway. hides that upper body line.

All LX mustangs left Michigan with pin stripes. Even the SSC's. I know this because I saw the blisters from rubbing that pin stripe off the SSC's. That is how you can tell if a fox has been repainted from the laser lines.

The car in this thread looks awesome but it has been repainted.
