I took the entire center console out. I used a 79-86 console delete E brake cover, and shifter cover. Also there is a peice of metal the center console mounts to in the rear that can be removed. To do the delete, you will need a 79-86 e brake assembly, which is also noticeably lighter.

Take the whole dash out, you don't need it. Also the HVAC stuff behind it.

Convert your doors to manual if not already. If your gonna cage it, take the crash bars out that are in the doors.

Remove the rear and pass. seats if not in use, remember the seat belts also, that is where the weight is. Switch to a manual seat track, it shaves ALOT of weight.

Prob. already mentioned are the front and rear crash bars, and absorbers, air bag stuff, ac/smog.

I'm going "hardcore" for my DD.

Alum dash built into the cage. Comp. Eng. steering shaft, Grant wheel. two alum seats, and 5 point harnesses. I removed all the sound deadening, but will reinstall the carpet and plastic panels (minus the dash) Cut out the spare tire well, and put a peice of alum. there (i needed to for my fuel cell) Tubular suspension, big & littles, fiberglass decklid and hood, thinking about a one peice fiberglass front end, and doors also.

It all depends on what you consider "streetable" Personally i've been driving my 4 banger around without a interior, only one seat, with the sound deadening removed, and I can't tell a difference in the ride quality than before.

Sounds like the route I'm taking on my road racer. I'm going all stripped with only the seats as luxury. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.

Thats insulation. the sound deadner is the black stuff under the pading. Some guy on the corral removed that and all the insulation and it weighd almost 80lbs.. If you really wanna go all out you can cut the brace out of the doors and some out of the hatch area. There are also guys on the corral whol did crazy weight reduction and ran 12's on a stock 5.0.. As far as a stock hood it weighs less than 40lbs i had a harwood hood that weighed about 30lbs. Not really worth it IMO.

I wonder if its that much louder inside without the sound deadner...

40 LBS??? I don't think the stock hood weighs 40lbs, let alone going to fiberglass saving you that much. Cervinis hoods aren't much lighter than stock. They have bracing on the under side out the arse, plus they are quite thick. Other brands are lighter however, but the fit isn't as good.

Thats what i was thinking. I really think my cervinis hood weighs more than my stock hood.

Is it a cowl hood?

My Kaneen is a 3" cowl with unfinished underside and I can hold it easily with one hand.

It came stock on all mustangs believe or maybe just the 8.8 cars. Its right under the part of the rear that the d/s bolts to.

Yeah, the dog bone is bolted to the bottom of the diff. I think it weighs something like 8.5lbs and really does **** all.

I think that dropping parts to save weight on your car is the most useless thing you could waste your time working on. Unless you are cutting 300-500+ pounds, I would say anything less would be worthless. You are just making the value of your car go down.

For a GT, I would think 300 lbs isn't a unreasonable ammout of weight to drop. It just depends on how much of a sacrifice you want to make gutting it vs comfort. I am sure a lot of us can loose weight off ourselves too. hehe

I'm looking to be @ 2600 without driver, at least that is what I am aiming for. It's not hard to drop a ton of weight, but most people don't want to live without the comfort.

That's really what it boils down to. My car weighed in at 2830 without me in it....not too bad but i haven't really done anything significant to save weight. if i gutted the interior, did aluminum heads, tubular K member and A arms, aluminum race seats...no carpet....i could probably come close to 2500lbs. The thing is though once you add a roll cage you're putting weight back in...but the benefits of a cage outweigh (lol) the added weight.

Can you take the dog bone off the diff. without anything bad happing....How the heck would it stop the car from shaking? It's just connected to the diff housing, it's not like it connects to the body or anything....

If you can imagine what it would sound like to ride around in a tin can with flowmasters under it, that's a lot what it's like. Sound deadener/insulation is the last thing I'd remove on something that you drive on the street a lot.

I never understood the 'racing seat' in a street car thing either. I can't see sacrificing comfort and style to save 30 lbs. in something you drive everyday. Seems like the majority of the cars you see with 'racing seats' or totally stripped interiors should have invested the time/money in installing a nitrous setup, or something that would make the car run the part without looking the part, as opposed to the other way around.
