If you can imagine what it would sound like to ride around in a tin can with flowmasters under it, that's a lot what it's like. Sound deadener/insulation is the last thing I'd remove on something that you drive on the street a lot.

I never understood the 'racing seat' in a street car thing either. I can't see sacrificing comfort and style to save 30 lbs. in something you drive everyday. Seems like the majority of the cars you see with 'racing seats' or totally stripped interiors should have invested the time/money in installing a nitrous setup, or something that would make the car run the part without looking the part, as opposed to the other way around.

Yeah i mostly agree....i'd never run aluminum race seats in a street car, but then again my car only gets driven every now and then. If the budget allowed it i would spend the money on making power instead of sacrificing comfort. If i had the cash i'd get the nice carbon fiber-backed racing seats that are fully adjustable and still have padding....the best of both worlds. Since i don't have that kind of cash, i'd just stick with the stock seats unless it's a bracket car or something. As for the sound deadening, noise doesn't really bother me much though so when i do my carpet, it's coming out.

I helped a friend strip all the deadening out of a 2.3t notch and even with just a fourbanger the heat and noise that came through the floor was just a bit too much for me.

It may be the fact that my exaust fell off right after the cat on my 4 banger, but after i stripped the carpet and sound deadening it gets VERY warm now....

mine was a lot louder when I pulled all the insulation and sound deadining stuff out even when it was the stock exhaust. Now with mac long tubes, pro chamber, and mac mufflers, I got rid of the cd player and speakers.

Removing this stuff from the front end saved about 50lbs. But the biggest advantage is that it increases weight transfer to the rear which is what you really want to focus on (i.e. battery relocate). I left my rear crash bar in for that reason. Also if you think you can do without it, going to a manual steering saves a bunch also.

The light hoods need pins, they are prone to bad fitment, no safety latch, and flying up and smashing the roof.
My cervini's is not much lighter if any than a stock hood.

If this car is a Daily Driver, i'd reconsider the losing weight idea, it sounds like a good idea at the time, but there will come a day when all the stuff you took out of the car makes it seem like a piece of crap. Then you have to do like i did and find all the stuff to put back in again.
150lbs of saving isn't worth making your car into a rattle can.
.2 of a second just isn't worth it.
