Fox with aftermarket power sunroof?

Anyone here have a Fox body hatchback with an after market POWER sunroof / moonroof installed? If so, what brand?

i always wanted one of those sleeker lookin ones that would drop inside the headliner.....just REALLY scared to cut up the roof...so itll never happen lol

I would NEVER install an Aftermarket Sunroof in ANY Car as I am sure it would leak!

If you find a good reputable auto glass place that does lots of sunroofs, they do very good work and give lifetime warranties.

My problem with aftermarket sunroofs(I was in the industry) is finding parts. Lifetime Warranty means nothing if they are no longer in business.

Very True, what good is a Warranty with no place to fix it! Plus Factory Sunroofs have drain tubes for water to run out of, Aftermarket ones are just going to have giant sections of Weather Strip.

That's a chance you take, but not necessarily true. The wife had an aftermarket power roof installed in her '90 Cougar. She did it through the dealer at the time of purchase, though it was installed by an independent company. The dealer covered it with the usual new car warranty, PLUS a lifetime warranty from the installing company. (Yes, they're still in business 16 years later.) We had the Cougar for over seven years, and never had a problem with the roof (or even the whole car for that matter).

Just because it's a factory roof and has drain tubes doesn't mean it won't leak. Fist, you've got to keep dirt and debris out of the tubes. I had the factory popup/removable roof on my '89 Mustang, and it did leak. Once because of a stopped up drain, and almost continually around the latch from where it bolts through the glass.

I finally got it mostly stopped with new seals and a generous helping of black RTV around the bolts in the holes. There was always the occasional drip, though.

The car I purchased (92 Hatch) had an aftermarket roof installed. The roof leaked like a sieve, and my local installation company said that the particular brand installed went out of buisness, because thier roof had a tendancy to break at the sissors and leak just like mine was. I had to pay $700 to get a new slightly larger roof installed, its nice, but an expense I would never had paid if I had an option.

sunroofs suck @$$... im goin through a whole mess of problems right now with my grand pre... ill put t-tops on be for i ever deal with another sunroof.. better yet im gonna rip the hole top off and make it a vert!

The problem with a power sunroof in a Fox is that the roof must retract OVER the roof. There isn't enough room on the roof to slide back into. Half the sunroof would stick out because you have the hinges for the hatch taking up room in the rear of the roof area.

I beleive this is why FOrd went with the pop-out sunroof. Simply nowhere to put the factory roof inside the roof, not to mention the fact that headroom will be significantly reduced.

I love my OEM sunroof. WIth new seals and keeping the 4 drain holes clear with compressed air, it never leaks at all. I love how big and open it is with it off.

my old gt had a sunroof I had massive leaking problems but on nice days I used to take the glass out it was very nice.

The rotating hinge that lets it open slightly has a release mechanism built in. Open the sunroof half-way and then squeeze the sides of the hinge inwards. Once you disconnect the hinge, lift the back of the glass up and slide it out of the slots in the front.

My stock sunroof leaks but thats only because ive had some bodywork done on the pillars and I think one of them is plugged. Only leaks in heavy heavy rains though, and i find it kind of funny when i go around a corner and a stream of water soaks my passenger
