Over on corral there is a thread to some guys who work at dealerships.. At this one dealership, someone traded in a MINT condition 85 or 86 GT for the C4C deal....

just read the entire thread on corral. makes me sad that cars that poor people like me can afford are being crushed so that poor people that have no idea how to work for what they have are given a new car. and it's not like the cars they are buying get good gas mileage either.

ryans car could be a clunker, anyone who has a rusted out 5.0 fox would be a good candidate, if you get the max 4,500 you would be way into the good money. Youd never get that with just selling it.

My lady is a clunker, anyone give me cash for her?

There was an article in last weekends paper about how the cash for clunkers program probably won't last too much longer. Obama put a 1 billion dollar maximum on the program, and that budget has already been exceeded by a lot. Who knows? Another week/month/ rest of the year? Who knows? I do know the dealerships here in the midwest are enjoying it!

To get the full $4,500 I was told the car had to be non-operational. I also saw a Lincoln commercial advertising their new $50k SUV, but if someone is willing to trash their car for $4,500 or less they obviously Couldnt afford a $50,000 vehicle so who does this c4c deal really help? Unless you get a Kia, and let's face it, if a company does a "buy 1 car get another free" deal then is what they're selling really worth it?

man, if that 85/86 is as clean and good as it looks then its worth more than the 4500 they got for it. I know that there is a clean late 80's early 90's camero sitting ath the local ford dealership, another victim of the c4c program.

The cash for clunkers program is a joke...OBAMA is just wasting money once again..its rediculous...the dealerships will end up paying for it hard when all this is over

Actually, if it's non-operational it doesn't qualify. The plan is to get running vehicles off the road. If it doesn't run, then it's not really contributing to the problem.

The basic criteria is that the car must run, you have to have had it registered for a year, it needs ot meet certain requirements from cars.com to be classified as a clunker.

Whether you get $3500 or $4500 depends on what type of vehicle you are trading in, and what you are buying. You get more cash for your car if you get something much more fuel efficient. if you get another truck, you may only get the $3500. If you traded your gas guzzling SUV for a 40MPG hybrid, you would prob get $4500.

There is also a $40K cap on the vehicle you buy.

An even scarier part of the CFC deal is this

Look, I didn't vote for the "O", but the C4C idea was around long before he stepped foot in the oval office. Hot rodders have been fighting this for a long time, and its probably one of the reasons the cars can't be older than 25. It takes some real heartless *******s to scrap a perfectly good car like that 4-eye, but I'm tired of fighting it. Its just as much a shame as every perfectly good 4 eye that gets hacked to do an Aero conversion or every coupe that gets the Mr Bodykit catalog thrown at it then driven into the ground.
