since i broke my tranny Ive been looking for one. I picked up a 4 banger tranny for 150$ cnd. i got the smaller pilot bearing, and I'm going to reuse my old TOB because it had only 2000 miles on it...now ...when i removed my broken tranny, i noticed that the bearing retainer was leaking badly..the seal was busted and got all my clutch full of oil . I feels as tho(for sure) my friction disk saturated oil from the tranny... what should i do? can I use some degreasers? i wiped down the pressure plate+fly wheel wit acetone to remove all grease and oil... but be4 i install everything, id like to know what is the best thing to do for the friction disk! thanx

i would seriously get rid of the clutch plate and the weaker 4 cyl. tranny...the 4 cyl tranny has a 240 ft.lb torque rating and the v8 tranny has 300-325 ft lb torque rating depending on the year model...

its a McLeod.. i cant just throw it away, i paid like 130 $ for it... plus i realized it was slipping when my old tranny was still working... it ddint slip that much, and i mean its still very drivable... in terms of performance u guys are right, but i wont do any performance driving with a 4banger t5 now would I. lol.. so i guess if i drive easy it should do the job...until i get my Astro Tranny !!!

dont use a degreaser because it will soak into the disk and just cause more problems. use brake cleaner and spray it down real good and than blow it off with compressed air. thats really the only chance you have.

Needs to be trashed but then you can replace it when that 4 cyl T5 goes out in a month. Seems like a waste of time when you can buy a new disc for $40.

Plenty of people run the 4 pot T5 without issues, including me. Even though it has a lower tq rating, it will last as long as the V8 version provided it's taken care of and you are a good driver.

The T5, in it's various factory forms, was designed with 4 and 6 cylinder engines in mind, not v8's at the power level of STOCK '85-'95 5.0's., let alone modified engines.

In short, whatever will kill a 4cyl. box will kill the v8 version just as quick. Stiff clutches, powershifts, clutch-drops, and WOT shifts into 5th, are a big no-no with any T5.
