Friction modifier with synthetic gear oil?

I was told that you did not need friction modifier in your rear end if you used synthetic gear oil. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Only if you dont have a trac loc or lsd .... Synthetic is still just oil, Some companies make theirs with it already in for specific applications, but regular synthetic gear oil, you will still have to add the friction modifier

you need it, use XL-3 friction modifier. A few fluids come with the modifier built in but it should say it on the bottle if it does.

What about the Royal Purple 75w90 synthetic gear oil?

Read the bottle if it doesnt say that its in there then you will have to add.

I don't have the bottle yet, I am just going by what the guy from mustangtuning told me. He didn't sound like he really knew alot though, because he kept having to ask someone else whenever I asked him a question. I just wanted to see if anyone could confirm this for me.

I put Royal Purple in my car and didn't use any, because it says not required on the bottle.

royal purple has the friction modifier in it.

short story long, read the bottle. If it does not say it has the friction modifier you need to add it. all LS diffs need it. royal purple says right on the bottle that it has it.

this is completely unessesary unless your ar experiencing chatter. there is not benifit to it. I am not sure if there are any negative effects though.

For 3 bucks its good insurance.
That and I trust the Motorcraft modifier, not just a generic modifier.
Plus being in the parts business for 17 years, I seem to do things differently than others....... The right way

But its your ride, enjoy

the right way, yup. you to can buy a grommet for 30 bucks, the right way dont buy it if you dont need it.

I was just giving my opinion....
But if you think about it, do you use modifier in a man. transmission? So is there enough in there? I used royal purple when I had the rear-end rebuilt, bearings, diff clutch's, and gear swap. With the new clutch's I wanted to make sure is was all good...
And by saying the "right way", trust your owners manual not the back of a bottle that is made for EVERY car company.
