My cousin has been anti-Ford for as long as I can remember. Yesterday I hooked him up to get a ride in a '03 Cobra vert with sidepipes and 3:73 gears. Well needless to say he is hooked on Mustangs Now he is planning on getting a 96~98 Mustang with a 4.6L V8 hehe This is the same guy that was about to spend 10 grand in mods on his Berretta. I told him the Mustang is not just a car; it's a following and a way of life

If you really care about your cousin, tell him to avoid 96-98 models. He should get a fox body or a 99 plus models.

For one, not as much power as the 99+ models. Secondly, plastic intakes that crack (you can hear about a few horror stories even just searching canada east).

So if he does, tell him to get the heads off a 99+ for it, and an aftermarket intake, before he's even ready to buy the car. Or he can dodge the hassle and buy 99+

Yeah, I was going to mention for him to let his cousin know that he's in for a bit of a letdown if he's expecting a 96-98 to go like an 03 Cobra, but I wouldn't discount the car altogether. With the PI Head/Intake conversion the '96 will make about 10 more hp than the '99.

Just FYI, the '99-up mustangs came with all plastic intakes as well and were subjected to the same cracking problems. Only the latest models and warrany cars got the intake with the aluminum crossover tube. Got a brand new all plastic intake sitting in my shed off of an '02. I'll probably be putting it up for sale if anyone wants it.

Update: He tried a 98 GT, black leather with electric seats, bright red exterior, 3:55 gears, Pionneer Mp3500 radio, Mach460 speakers, 5 speed, Cobra R wheels, and very clean (Florida car).

He seriously wants the 98 model year. He never had a RWD car before and was suprised to find out how much better RWD is for fun. Wouldn't the supercharger come with a new intake anyway? He's already telling me about the mods he wants done lol Supercharger, sidepipes, Cobra bumpers, tinted windows, eibach springs, etc... lol

If it’s a positive displacement blower like a Kenne Bell, Saleen, Roush, Allen, FRPP, etc then yes, it will replace the existing lower manifold. If it’s a Centrifugal blower like a Paxton, Vortech, ATI, etc, then it will not require the use of a new lower manifold. I for one think that should he choose to go the Centrifugal route, he should convert to a PI manifold regardless. The ’96-’98 stock manifold is extremely restrictive and huge additional gains can be realized by swapping it out….especially on a blown engine.

Your cousin or friend should seriously take a look at the classifieds in montrealmustang.org. There s a 95 in there with the 5.0 engine, with nice mods and 100 000km. I think the guy ran a best in the low 13s. He said he never used it in the snow and barely in the rain. Price is 8900$.

Oh man... I had to slap some sense into him yesterday. He's starting to talk about taking on our friend which is in the low 11's. hmmmm I don't think a nearly stock Mustang is in the 11's lol Even a blower on a stock engine won't bring it that low.

Oh well he'll learn the hard way. We went to the track yesterday and watched a bunch of Mustangs get their asses kicked by ****ing hondas! It's so sad to see fellow fox body owners slap on loud exhausts and go racing only to find out that a honda can do about the same times... From what I see I'll be the only one there next summer with a modded fox body (mods other than h-pipe and fiberglass hood).

I raced a geo metro with my Zx2, this guy had the loudest piece of rice I've heard thus far. It was such a retarded "race" I did 18.30 @ 78.4MPH and he did a 19.xx @ 72.8MPH lol I had a crappy 60 ft at 2.6 or something

A lot of Hondas were in the low and mid 14's. More where in the 16's but not one Mustang could crack 14 flat. My friend's T-bird which runs mid 11's could only do a best of 11.9x. He got a better time with 3 people sitting in the back seat for more traction. LOL
