I usually post in classics and I will sadly have to cut my project short and sell her probably this summer. I will be on the lookout for a newer model mustang with a 4.6 obviously. I don't have much money and will probably get around 7-8K for this one. What is a good base car to start with that has a 4.6 and potential to be very fast (with a power adder of course)? I also would eventually like some Chrome Cobra 18's and a saleen body kit if that makes a difference. Thanks

I did the same thing. I decided to scrap my '66 coupe project and invest in a '97 GT. Right out of the box a 99-04 GT with a supercharger will make great numbers. 96-98 GT's have a lot less HP than 99+ so they take a bit more work to get them going. 96-98 Cobra's made 305 HP stock. 99 and 01 Cobra's were overrated at 320 HP and 03-04 Cobra's have 390 HP and already have a supercharger. 99+ 4.6 engines love boost so if you want a power adder I would suggest starting with a 99-04 GT or if you can afford it a 99 or 01 Cobra.

Well I was thinking 97-99 GT....I want coupe not CV amd black so if anyone sees something along these lines for cheap...then PM me

Thanks for the help, I am only 15 so it is not a right away need as we will fix up the 65 to sell before we get the newer one...I am sad needless to say but I will get over it once I can enjoy an actual radio, A/c, Power steering and brakes haha. Thanks again

96-98 cobra make a good starting point, or 99+GT...

Yeah but money is the biggest thing, is a GT cheaper than a Cobra? I think that the GT is less expensive and not as fast but I could be wrong...either way money is the biggest thing here.

ya, im 21 and went in to get a quote on a 98 cobra coupe, and they said it would be $989 a year, thats with my otehr 2 cars, 81 LTD and 00 Grand Marquis on the policy with good student, good driver, and no points or tickets. i currently pay about $3k a year in insurance. but i use AAA so if i have any problems whatsoever they are all over it like a virgin nerd on pamela anderson.

I just picked up a 98 GT yesterday. I decided to get something reliable rather then put the money into my 70. Still haven't decided if I'm going to sell the 70 or not though. But it's a good car and I'm impressed with the power.

Well I love the 65 to pieces but there is too much to do. I was going to put all the things in to make it like a modern car, PB, PS, A/C, and it just makes sense to start out with a better car. I will return to the world of classics one day.

make sure you look over in the classifieds of stangnet and other sites, they normally have nice cars for sale. I would at least get a 9-96-98 cobra or a 99+ gt, or if you can afford it a nice 99+ cobra, there are those out there that are affordable and a good starting point, I looked at alot of 99+ cobra's to decide what price I should sell mine for so I know there are decent ones out there.
