SASKATOON
I currently have a Kenwood KDC-MP2028 (50x4 I believe) with the scosche amp adapter to retain the factory amps and speakers... with a Soundstream 10" sub (300 watt) on a soundstream amp (140 watt @ 4 ohm, but is @ 2 Ohm now) , and also the mach 460 amps and components.

Now, I just purchased some soundstream 4 way 6x8's (4 of them) and I am wondering if I need an amp (would be a soundstream 4 ch) to have the same loudness and quality as the factory system?

** I also know about running new wires for all the speakers and getting rid of the amps and all that **

Any advise and tips and whatnot will help so post away...

Thanks,
Shawn

Hey Shawn,

Good to see another Soundstream enthusiast. I personally would just delete all the 460 amps and speakers and run new wires for your amp and 6x8's. My previous Mustang had 460 that I deleted and I ran my own setup. I really want to do the same with my current stang, but its a vert and I leave my top down quite a bit. I figure no one really wants to jack a factory 460 system.

thanks for the comments, and yes soundstream is my brand of choice.

However, the thing I was wondering is... when I put in the new 6x8's will it be just as loud as the factory stuff or will I need an amp to get it at the same volume?
Or a better way to ask this is, people who upgraded their system, did you get an aftermerket amp? Or did you just run wires to the new speakers from the deck?

I just put a new deck and speakers in my car last week. A Pioneer D3 GPS and infinity speakers. I have 6x8's in the rear running off of the deck and they are as loud and clearer then the factory speakers. However I think there is less bass, shouldnt be an issue with the sub though. The front component speakers are running off an amp though so I cant say what it would sound like if they were all off the deck.

thanks for the info... I ended up finding a 4 ch. soundstream for really cheap so I picked it up.. it should be here in a week or so, then I get to figure out how to wire this all up... should be a blast!! :)

So now I will have:
Kenwood KDC MP2028 deck. (50x4 watts)
Soundstream 2 ch. amp (260 @ 2ohm RMS)
Soundstream 300 watt 10" sub
4 Soundstream 4 way 6x8's (400 watt)
and a 4 Ch. Soundstream amp (60x4 @ 4ohm RMS)

I'm excited to get the rest wired up and get rid of all the shenanigans Ford has in there...

Haha, yeah the wiring really isnt too bad it makes for a fun project. Although I somehow managed to blow my sub that I have had for a few years, still not really sure how that happend. Oh well means I get to upgrade. Going to 500 watts rms to a Diamond D6 sub instead of ~150 to my old sub. It should be a bit of a difference.
