Front Bumper on a GT

You've got those two bolts in the angle brackets that go the radiator support (marked "brackets" in the pic) and then theres 3 or 4 bolts on each side that hold the whole front end to the fenders (you can get to those from the inside of the fender, and therefore cannot be seen in that pic) and then the whole front end comes off headlights and all. Once you've got that whole front end off, unbolt the headlights, and those rivets must be taken out in order to separate the headlight retaining bracket from the actual bumper cover (the piece you got off of ebay). The cover is super flexible and thin up on top of the headlight bracket which is why there are so many rivets. The headlight brackets must then be re-riveted into your new cover, the headlights remounted, and then the whole cover w/ the headlights can be bolted back on the car.

Its not that big of a job. You just have to get the replacement rivets to hold the new bumper cover to the headlight bracket.

I don't remember 100% but I don't think there are any bolts under the bumper cover itself. The foglight bracket is mounted to the actual fiberglass bumper, so thats going to stay on the car when you remove the front end. Does that help at all?

Am I missing anything? someone else care to chime in?

THanks,

I got it off no problem about 2 hours ago and now i got the big headlight bracket thing i thnk its called that goes in the whole bumper.. like the thing that bumper cover goes onto, and i cant get it to line up.

What won't line up? Is the cover stoo small for the bracket or vice versa?

You might have to use a heat gun to warm up the eurithane so that it can be flexed around the headlight bracket.

Can you post pics of the problem?

Using a rivet gun is pretty strait forward. Open the gun all the way by separating the handles. Put the long part of the rivet into the gun so all you see sticking out is the collar and the thicker part. Insert the rivet into the material and then you'll prolly have to pull the trigger on the gun about 2-3 times until it pops and then you are riveted. Depending on the size of the rivet, you may have to change out the head as most guns come with three different sizes in little holders on the front handle of the gun. I dont know what more there really is to it. Guud Luck

mY BUMPER still doesnt line up right so im taking it off and re-doing it very soon.

questions are:

1. The headlight bracket thing didnt for some reason line up right with the cover but i got it finally with a screw. the thing is the screw is blocking the fender and bumper to meet. the studs that come out of the headlight bracket for the cover to slide onto would'nt go on good so i had to force it and it is loose without the screw in it. could i use epoxy to hold the headlight bracket studs onto the bumper cover? if not, what could i use to hold them together.

2. and for some reason the bumper cover part where the headlights would go into the bottom of that wehre the headlights rest on the bumper should have rivets from the cover into the headlight bracket.. that would'nt line up either for some odd reason. im trying to figure it all out.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Not to thread-jack, but couldn't you just use small bolts instead of rivets to hold the headlight brackets in place? Then you wouldn't have to piddle around with finding the proper-sized rivets and a rivet gun ... plus, you could adjust the brackets for aiming, if necessary.

Just wondering, as I've been kinda halfheartedly thinking about changing out my beat-up LX nose piece for a used (and freshly-painted) GT front-end I can pick up from a Craigslist ad for dirt cheap.
