Front Disc Power conversion..what company to go with?

Hey guys,
Going to do a front disc Power conversion on my 66 V8 mustang. I'm not interested in the granada setup, but have narrowed my choices down to the following. But what I"m really looking for is if anybody has used MPbrakes kit. Also, DFbrakes. They offer really low prices (single piston vs 4) but a lot cheaper. Is it worth buying their 4 wheel setup? And i'm assuming that its not a granada...but not sure.

He has a kit that uses 07/08 GT calipers and rotors w/ brackets and hardware.

I'm going to be going with his kit. FYI...you will need larger diameter wheels for Steve's kit. I haven't chosen what exact wheels I'm going to use, but, I don't mind going to 17's.

With his front kit and the crown-vic rear disc I put on mine, I will have right at $800.00 in my 4 wheel disc set-up.

I know you said you are not interested in the Granada setup but for the performance per dollar spent you can't really beat Dennis' Granada swap kit. Check out http://www.discbrakeswap.com/

You can get everything you need for a very affordable price.

Planning on 17s tt2's (7 wide in front and 8 wide in rear). But the reason I don't want to go with the granada kit (or steves) is b/c I"m worried it will chance the track width and therefore push the wheel out closer to the fender. Since I'll be going 17x7 with the standard 4" backspacing, I want it to tuck inside the fender.

I know some guys say that the granada doesn't change the track width or ride height, but some sites say it does, I don't want to take that chance.

I believe that Steve's kit I spoke of doesn't change the track width at all.

The kit I'm going to get replaces the drum with a rotor. So the only difference in width is going to be the difference in thicknesses of the drum and rotor. Very minimal..I would think 1/8" at best.

K. found some info. The cobra brakes do look great, don't get me wrong. But i've read that they won't clear the curves on the spokes on 17x8 torque thrust 2s. So they are a no go. If I'm not mistaken (and I very well could be), Steve has a pic on his website of a coupe with TT2's and the 13" cobra setup???

Then you are wrong. Those rims are stock Ford rims.

That's the pic...upon further research, I see the difference...my bad.

However, the American Racing sight shows what the tt II's will fit the '94 & up Mustangs. For my personal curiosity, I'm to find out if the tt II's will fit the 13" brakes.

granada spindles will not change the track width at all. also www.discbrakeswap.com has 65-66 specific granada spindles, they have the same geometry as a stock 65-66 spindle which is different from stock granada spindles or 67-73 spindles. he had these spindles specifically cast for 65-66 mustangs. i don't think his website shows them but you can send him an email and he'll let you know which ones you need.

any info on those brakes?? I see the cobra sets but nothing on the 05+ brakes

I'm in the middle of this swap. First-hand experience -- TTII wheels won't clear the Cobra calipers on the 13" Cobra Steve setup without a ~1/4" spacer. For what it's worth, I've got 17x7 TTII wheels on the front with 4" BS - the back side of the spokes on the wheels hit the outer face of the caliper (where most of them say "Cobra"). Steve's aware of the problem - you can look it up on the forum on his site.

If such a spindle is really available, this seems like a good option to me. I think it is a very good idea to upgrade to the 70-73 or granada beefier spindle. See the "spindle help" thread in this forum for my reasoning.

I think there may also be an issue with Granada rotors in that I think they "snout" on the bug is larger diameter than stock mustang, which means stock wheels will not fit. If you are planning on getting new wheels this is not an issue.

Cool...I wonder if thats his prototype set. I have met Steve in person and hes a very nice and knowledgeable guy. I wouldnt hesitate to buy any of his products. I bought his whole pedal assembly for my 65 with the roller bearing setup, clutch cable conversion, adjust bracket and power brake booster.

you can have the snout on the hub machined down to fit the earlier style wheels. they won't work with stock steel drum brake wheels no matter what you do to them but they will work with any of the other wheels with the machining

So did you go with a 1/4 space then? Or did you have the caliper machine? Not really wanting to use a spacer.
