I am having difficulties installing front struts myself and need some assistance. The car they are going into is a 1998 Mustang GT stick shift. I removed the stock struts, however I could not figure out how to remove the top nut holding down the rubber bushings and the dust cover. I am sure it can be done I just couldn't figure it out. Is there a special tool, or technique to doing this, and is reinstallation the reverse of removal? Thanks your comments are appreciated.

not sure if you can but could you remove the three bolts holding plate and all and then try to remove it? I think you will have to use an impact wrench to really get it out but then agian I havent looked closely at it..

Do not remove the three bolts. You will lose your alignment.

If you have a slot in the end of the threaded shaft of the strut put a huge screwdriver in it to get it to stay still. If it has flat sides use a large pair of vice grips.

The easiest way is with an impact wrench.

I have rivets holding mine in alignment?

Yeah, there are rivets if it is factory stock but there is really no need to remove those three bolts. It will be more work in the long run IMHO. He should focus on getting that top nut off IMHO...
