Front tires and rear tires.

DB, let me ask this: do you drive the car on the street?
If so, I would get some GOOD tires for the front. You know how much brake bias is in the front (70-80%) and that is important. If some SUC vehicle pulls out in front of you, you want to be able to mash the brakes a lot before lock-up.

That is just my take - I know you are lookin at it from a track-type perspective, but I at least wanted to mention the evasive driving aspect. I know my 88 GT Vert plows the front end a lot - I actually want sticky tires up there for turning and turning and braking too. The '94 runs 17" Nitto 555's and I really like how well they plant to the road (for my conservative driving).

I have some BS million mile front tires that will never die. Right now those tires are ample, i always drive conservatively and even when i break hard these front tires do a good job of stopping.

All else considered, is a combo like this feasable?

If what you have works for you, then go for it, ya know? I dont know whatcha mean about the combo being feasible. Having less sticky tires up front is not all that different than having skinnies up there with slicks or DR's out back. If you are just buying new rear meats, then there is no harm in trying it - if you find the front end lacking in grip, you can upgrade then (if you were getting new wheels and tires and having to decide how good a tire to get for up front, that would be different).

I think it is just too personal a thing (we all drive different - I am slow, for instance) for there to be one right answer. Some of the guys like David (5spd Gt) might have better advice - I know David runs (and just got some fresh) DR's. I dont know what he runs up front though. He drives spiritedly, tracks the car, etc. It does it all for him. He might pop in here later - he is a late night guy often.

JT if he's running MT ET streets in the back then his street driving will be quite limited anyway. VERY limited in the rain, and not a corner carver at all..the cheap tire will suit your needs alright. For me I run drag radials in the back, but BFG comp TA's in the front..I like having a good set of rubber on the wheels, makes me feel better. I personally have never liked or trusted the cheapie tires...probably goes back to university days where I had MULTIPLE flats with my kelly charges on my 89LX..resorted to driving well over 500 miles(true story..tire looked fine) on my mini spare when cash was tight.
