Front Wheel Problem

This is going to be a little long:
I recently purchased 18x9s wheels for my 2001 GT, and when I put on the front wheels/tires (245 40 18's) the steering vibrates between 40-60 mph. I put back on my original rims and of course no shake. SO, I put on one new wheel/tire with an original and still got the shake. I switched sides, and and still a shake. While changing the wheels, I noticed the new rim(s) did not fit "snug". EXAMPLE: When I put on the old rim it fits right over the hub and I don't have to hold it on to put on the lugs, The new rim requires me to hold the wheel in place to put on the lugs. The manufacturer says that these are a direct fit. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have the been balanced? If so I would say your only option is to call who you bought them from and see what they say.

most wheels are out of round slightly , manufacturers allow this to a certian measurement , not sure what that is , buddy works at an accesories shop so hes bolting rims on cars all day long , if it is true to the center hub then you probably wouldnt notice anything , but most times aftermarket wheels are centered to the lug pattern because of the variances in hub sizes on different cars they make the center hub really large to fit more cars , the center of your OE wheels is made to center the wheel on the hub , not the lugs , thats why you dont have any problems with them , go to any shop to get your tires balanced and watch what they use to balance them , a big cone that centers on the hub , NOT THE LUGS , there lies your problem , find a shop that does alot of aftermarket wheels in your area and ask them if they have a tool , its a big disc with big round i call them fingers , not sure what to call them but they match them up with the bolt pattern of the wheel and it slides on the balancer to hold the wheel in place , that centers the wheel on the lugs not the center hub , there for you get a true balance for the aftermarket wheels , because when you bolt them on your car its going to center itself on the lugs not the hub , if you find a shop that has there crap together they will have the tool im talking about . make sense now ??

The shop that balanced the wheels had the "disc with fingers" your talking about. I was thinking that maybe the end cap on the hub was hitting the back of the center cap. I'm going to try a 1/4" spacer on the fronts to see if that's the issue...UNLESS someone says that I shouldn't do that.
