FRPP 9mm Spark Plug wire question

Sorry if this is a dumb question but today when I was installing my new wires, I noticed the set came with two different types of wires that connect the distributer to the coil. They both are a little different from the wire that was being replaced. I dont have any kind of aftermarket coil either. Which wire am I supposed to use? I think it is the longer one but I just want to make sure.

The shorter one is for a different type of ignition coil. The longer one is the one you use. It's longer so that it can also be used on a Foxbody, which has the coil mounted on the inner fender. All of the FRPP wires are actually longer, because they are also cut to fit on a 351.

Oh okay that makes sense. Do they make bigger clips that will help clean it up a bit? The ones that were on there before would not fit these thicker wires and I'm worried about them sitting against something hot like a header or something.

The FRPP 9MM for 5.0's are universal for 86-95 engines. The longer coil wire is for a FOX body and the shorty coil wire is used for 94-95's. You'll need to get new wire looms since the stock wires are 8MM and so are the looms. I made mine from zip ties. I couldn't find ones I liked so I got creative. BlackVert has some extremely nice ones.

I put one all around the wires loosely, then between each individual spark plug wire loosely. When all the zip ties are set I tighten them up and trim. I've got them going all the way to the plugs.

I wasn't able to hook the short wire up since it has a different kind of connector boot on one end. What am I doing wrong? I'm going to go to oreillys after work and see what they have for wire looms.

You didn't do anything wrong....as stated those wires are universal for 86-95 engines.....not specific for a 94-95 Mustang. They're nice, I used them for a while, but as you're now experiencing...they don't fit all that well, a bit long as they're used on the bigger 351 as well. The zip tie method is great for tidy-ing up the wires....looks alright too. Might be your best bet...give it a shot.

I like the cut to fit universal wires...Accel makes a set you can get at the parts stores. Easy to assemble yourself. Crimper should be on the same aisle...little tool that makes the job a cake walk. You might be able to disassemble the coil wire, cut to length, then re-assemble. Consider trying it on an old plug wire, take it apart, see how it works, then put it back together. Then...search around the forums to see if anyone else did the same thing and take notes. Do the research before cutting up your nice new shiny coil wire.....

Sorry, someone mislead you. You use the longer wire for the coil, not the shorter one. Just tuck the excess up under the intake. There are plenty of looms out there. You can probably find some at the autoparts store.

Accel also makes a custom fit kit for the 302, that you can order through Summit or the aitoparts store. No cutting required.

That's the exact set of looms I use. Good to know I can get them at O'Reilly's. Mine are older than dirt.

what i did when i ran those was swap the ends, you just need to pry apart the connector ends to get it to slide off the end, then do the reverse no different then just making your own cut to length wires

Are the FRPP wires overkill on a basically stock ignition 5.0? Will some good over the counter BWD wires be sufficient?

The stock wires are adequate. Honestly I ran stock wires for a few thousand miles. I have a LiveWires set (excellent but pricey) then went with FRPP and in the picture I posted above, those are MSD 9MM. I bought the MSD6AL ignition box, wires, coil, cap & rotor all at the same time.

Honestly better quality than the FRPP ones. Some people just like the look of the motorsport wires though.

Here is how they turned out with the Moroso seperators I used:

Doesn't look as nice as some of yours do but it did help clean it up a bit.

Looks pretty good.

I have a suggestion for the coil bracket. Mine was as rusty as yours. Some clean them and paint them black. I polished mine. I know you shouldn't polish steel but that was the theme when I had a blower. What I did so it wouldn't rust again was sprayed 2 coats of clear on it. I used clear from a rattle can I got for $6 at my local parts store. I used 400 grit, 600 grit, wet sanded 1500 & 2500 and it was shiny. Or you can just clean it, scuff it up, spray primer then spray it in black. Also spray the two 10MM bolt heads holding the bracket as well.

You can see it a little bit in this pic.

That looks really good. Ill definately be doing that to mine and I will let you know how it turns out. Thank you for the advice.

might as well cut all the other wires because spending 10 minutes on 1 is too much work? i guess i think diff then you i rather have it look the way i want it then just loop it around a bunch of crap to get it out of the way. and cutting and making your own wires takes a couple hours to do it right
