Frustrated...

Is it just me or is it a rule of thumb when owning an old car that needs love that when you fix something broken, something else breaks? Lol

I've been busy with a new job and haven't had much time for my fox, but I had it back running with a new TB for my birthday at the beginning of the month.. Last week I smoked up the starter.. Of course like 2 days after a fresh oil change and a full gas tank!

I'm not fortunate enough to have my own garage (complete with tools) so I have to wait, yet again, to fix it.

I just want to drive! :'( Is that too much to ask for?

Sometimes it works out that way. Believe it or not, something fixed it's self in my 92 LX. The air bag light was flashing 3 times and then going out for a few seconds and then flashing again. It was doing this all of the time so I figured some sort of repair was in order. The other day it stopped flashing so I figure the issue resolved it's self or the light bulb burned out. Either way I'm happy. I have to go for an annual safety inspection Monday so this worked out just fine.

I feel your pain. Same thing keeps happening to me. I fix one issue and learn of another. Time for me to move to a house with a garage

Get used to it! just something you have to deal with when owning a 20+ year old vehicles. Over the past 2 years I completed my 5 lug/rear disc, TFS top end kit, and a laundry list of other suspension mods. And when I finally get to drive and think I'll be done for a while? Clutch is smoked, TB chattering, blinkers stopped working, AC/heat motor won't blow. FAAAHQ. it's a labor of love!

This is the story of my life. Well my cars life I should say. Just last month I replaced intake gaskets on mine to resolve a popping issue and coolant getting into my oil. Replaced the gaskets and I tried to start it and starter went to sh*t.

Valve cover gaskets are next on my list .. New starter Friday! Just in time to get a nice drive in before 4th of July!

I have another car with a BLACK VINYL interior I had converted to 134a. It worked fine for 2+ seasons. If you park it in the sun without AC, I do not know if you can cook eggs on the seats, but you can surely toast the buns. It leaks from a 40 year old diaphragm in an important AC part. The part is obsolete, and only Vintage Air makes an update. But no one with a evacuation pump and certification wants to mess with it. The word "Aftermarket" scares them, even if the part is off a newer model. I do not want burnt legs, so the car is not getting many miles when I should be driving it. If I had an old fridge I wanted to strip the pump from, as per certain directions on this site, it would be up and going.

My point - If you want an older car, you might have to fix it yourself a lot at first. Until it is restored it will be often, and then you still have to keep it up. And you have to wonder what the previous owners were thinking too. Hopefully it is worth avoiding new car payments to you. Once they outlaw all non electric cars, crush the rest, and acid rain from the electric plants destroys all the vintage sheet metal, we will not have to worry.

Hey i grew up in love with mopars and owned many, worked on all my friends chevys and hated on mustangs. Now with my 89 notch I've realized what I've been missing out on. Easy maintenance. Mopars cars are way too expensive, F ing gm starters and distributors are boat anchors. Anyways take it for what its worth but i actually enjoy all endeavors on my stang.

I'm more than happy to fix it myself (yes, girls like this stuff too!) Just would like a little more drive time to enjoy my car instead of all this break it, fix it stuff going on over here. Haha

I love the dirty, greasy car smell. I like the scuffed knuckles and sweat in my eyes. I would just like it to be more infrequent!
I prefer revving the engine, spinning the tires, and shifting gears!

My dance with my car is one step forward and one step back. I'd like to learn a new dance where I get two steps forward with only the occasional step back.

i.e., while under my car getting 3:73's installed, we noticed my driver side torque box has a tear in it. Major buzz kill on my "progress". Especially when going from 2:73's to 3:73's you want to get on it and really feel the difference but can't. If it's not one thing it's another but that's the love affair I have with the dang car.

Ya know, I've been a Door Host (bouncer) at a country bar for almost 2 years and still haven't learned how to 2-step.

Ugh. Pass dude.. I refuse to buy any of that new garbage! Anything made after 2010 will not be making it into my driveway! I'll be hard pressed to find a new (used) car next year when my oldest daughter drives.. Giving her my Saturn!

The thing about new garbage that's dependable and less work is the payments and being smog compliant (for starters). If you put a nice Fox next to a 2014 Mustang that's modified I wouldn't look at the new one for more than 2 seconds. There is too many options, too much luxury and too neat. I like the rawness of older cars and some of the noises they make. Fixing instead of modifying would get old, i'm hoping I have good luck. So far my car isn't broken to where I can't drive it. It's just taken apart for restoration although breaking is inevitable.

My Fox project is like my full colored sleeve (tattoo) I got done. When going into I new it would be long, painful and expensive but I would be happy and proud of the finished product.

Frustrated...
