FTI's Rollmaster timing chain...(Rollmaster)...can't get the cam socket on...

I know I don't have an sn95 but know a few of "ya'll" have did the swap...i'm in middle of the FTI h/c/i swap...need to get it running...it is daily driver...

Two questions...need help...

I got the bottom crankshaft socket on (timing chain)...but I can not get the top one to even slide on byitself...it seems to stop when it hits where the cam bolt goes...very very frustrating...

Second...when I would go to pull of the upper timing chain after getting it on maybe 1/2 inch...the cam would pull forward about 3/8 of an inch...with the retainer hold down plate bolted down...is that normal...the cam spins freely like it did when the stock one was in...before installing the cam hold down retainer...the cam sat flush with the hole...that is correct right?

Are you banging the camshaft gear on? I just used a large socket, and a small sledge and it slides right on..

FYI, make sure you use the bronze thrust washer with the rollmaster!! Someone told me it was not needed and i didnt use it, and my old FTI cam was walking, and the dist gear ate the cam gear, and part of the front cam bearing.

I thought the upper would slide right on...I banged it with my hammer a little bit...not to hard...(didn't have proper padding between)...but it didn't go on...

I don't think I put the dowel pin in wrong...it could only go in straight...and both ends looked the same...???

Where exactly do I need to put that thrust washer...do I put that under the cam retainer plate...I wonder if that is why my cam was moving back and forth?????

If all else fails I could just reuse the upper cam sprocket and use the Rollmaster timing chain and crank sprocket...but I would rather not do that...

I had to heat my rollmaster in the oven to get it to slide on. It wouldn't go any other way.

What temp?...also what did you do when you had to take it on and off when degreeing it...if you didn't degree it...what would you suggest...

Also...does anybody know if the cam moving about 3/8 of an inch (if that)...is normal...?

I put the thrust washer between the timing chain end and cam retainer...?

Like 250*. Use a gear puller to get it back off when degreeing, although mine was right on dot-to-dot.

I don't have a gear puller...balancer puller but no gear puller...maybe I'll luck out and and mine will be on dot to dot...

Anybody know if the cam moving back and forth is normal...just remember just the cam retainer plate is on...

I believe mine went on with some coaxing (re: force), but nothing drastic. I remember we used high-temp grease liberally on some of those areas to help lube stuff up.

Jake, don't forget to tell him about the special blends of seasoning you used to get it on there just right. Cinnamon, sugar, salt and pepper, what else again?

Please keep in mind that I do not work like an idiot, and I never force anything, BUT, I do know some like to work with duct tape, hammers, bungee cords, vise grips and adjustable wrenches. If you are that kind of person, then break out the handy dandy BFH!

Hmm...okay...

Well anyways...I finally got it on...just hammered it on there with a socket by tapping it...went on easy...then went and bought a gear puller and pulled it back off...tomorrow I'm going to try to get around to degreeing it...
