Fuel filler compartment holds water!

Ever notice that when you wash your car or it rains and then open the fuel filler door that water is just sitting there? Has anyone drilled a hole to let this drain?

If so, let me know how you did it. Thanks.

i noticed it when i was detailing my car. i was gonna drill a hole but i never did. If i did i would just do it at the lowest point so the water will go there and drain.

There's already a drain there, with a hose that is supposed to release the water down under the fender. Mine keep getting pinched and cutting off the flow. If you just drill a hole, it will drain the water down to the rubber surround the fits over the filler pipe, where it may sit and cause rust. My filler pipe had a pinhole rust-through right there because of of water being caught in the rubber surround. You're better off trying to figure out what's wrong with the existing drain tube.

Take a (thin) wire coat hanger and straighten it out. Stick it in the hole in the bottom of the fender. It will only go so far before it gets stuck, but keep turning it and poking it and it will eventually come out inside the fuel filler compartment. Keep doing this and flushing it with water until it is unclogged.

That's just it. there is no drain at all!

I figured there was a drain somewhere so it wouldnt rust away in a few years but couldnt find one, and since the water was sitting in there for a while when i washed my car i figured there wasnt one or its clogged or something. I guess i got to look closer.

If there is no drain hose attached to the bottom of the quarter panel, take the coat hanger and go from inside the filler compartment. Dry the water up so you can see. The drain hole is toward the rear of the car. Poke around and you will find it. Just be careful not to let the coat hanger flop around and scratch your paint.
