Do you NEED the special tool to get the things off?

Yes, you can get the little plastic quick disconnects at any local auto parts store.

Cardboard can work, but I wouldn't advise it

I just changed mine out, after 25K, and cracked it open. It did not look like the one in the picture hanging on the EZ Lube wall, but it was about half-way there. The car runs alot better now.

Changing Fuel Filter

I've been wanted to change mine out but haven't done it before on this car. If possible, could you tell me where it is located and what it takes to swap it out for a new one. Thanks!

Its in the rear of the car, located on the driver side (I believe), but once you get the car off the ground and get under there, you'll see it. It'll look like the one you're holding to replace it with

Just go get a new fuel filter and some plastic quick disconnects. When you're disconnecting, be sure to disconnect the line going up first, and QUICKLY put your finger over the holes. If not, you're gonna get gasoline in your eye lol.

Then use it again to disconnect the filter, and replace with the new one. It really isn't hard at all.

I hope none of you fu** up like I did

When i was pulling my fuel filter yesterday, it actually broke off in my line. It's hard to explain so i'll take a quick picture to show what I mean.

Today, i'm going to "rig" something up with hose + clamps. The reason I have to do this is because of the things which "hold" the filter in got tore out when i was removing it.

Pic #1- You'll notice that one end is WAYYY shorter.
Pic #2- The way the end is supposed to look.
Pic #3- What it looks like.

Sorry for the pictures bring so low quality.

I believe that to be due to the cheap filter that I used last time

I wasn't even working on the side that "Broke off".. I was using the tool to get the other side off, and it just popped out when I was trying to get a small amount of leverage

The tool is only $3.99 from autozone, or you can get a metal one for $5.99

You'll need it

The filter

The filter+tool is about it. It's located in the rear of your car, and you will need to jack it up

Can you replace the connections we have one there with quick disconnects that aren't springed?

My little clamps got ripped out when I was trying to bring the broke part out of my line.

Though, I'm going to rig something up with some heavy duty rubber hose & clamps to see if it leaks

I'm not sure if the 99+s are the same, though there was a "rubber sleeving" over my line, which I took off to be able to get the broken fuel filter out. It has a plastic tube, which I think might have cracked while I used Pliars

What I plan on to do is clamp the hose on my fuel filter... then to the line.

Hopefully it'll work

Jack up the rear of your car and put it on jackstands. PUtting them on the rear end works good
2. Go under your car and bring a flat blade screwdriver to get the hose clamp off that holds the filter onto the little cage it rests in.
Bring your new quick disconnect tools down there and slide them over the filter and push them into the connector
While youre pushing them into the connector, pull on the connector. Might take a few tries at it. Then just have your new filter down there and when you get it off and it leaks gas, put the new filter on it, stops leak instantly.
Do the other side and connect it up.

Tighten the hose clamp and get the thing back on the ground and you're done.
