Cool...great timing for this thread... i was just going to change mine tomorrow...i never did it before i figured it cant be that hard. lol. thanx

how often should it be changed? the 01 GT i bought has 41k on it and I doubt its ever been changed.

is it required to vent fuel pressure or can i just pop the line off with the tool? i'm pretty clueless with cars and never did this before. learning as i go I'm doing it with rhino ramps, hopefully that will be ok

I didnt use the tool to get it out. If I did it proably would have been easier.

Well I changed my filter today. It was pretty simple. I vented the pressure as Firemanz suggested and I also took the gas cap loose(just in case). I used the special tool and it popped right off. Took about 15 minutes. I poured the gas out of the filter. One side the gas was clear - the other side looked dirty orange in color. I haven't drove it yet, but it was pretty obvious it needed changing.

how exactly do i vent the fuel pressure? do i use the interia switch on the fuel pump or pull the fuse for the fuel pump relay and just let the car run until it stalls? or do i just open up the valve on the fuel rail and catch the fuel that leaks out with a rag or something? this is my first time doing this and i don't want to mess it up

I just opened up the valve on the fuel rail. Kinda like letting air out of a tire.

for thos of u who have already done it...nice work. This is a very simple job. DISCONNECT UR BATTERY BEFORE U START! Jack the ass end of the car up. Pop the hood. Take the little black cap of the shrader valve which is located on the the front passenger side fuel rail. It looks like a tire valve. U can release the pressure slowly my pressing the valve with a screwdriver but be sure to have a towel near u because u r gonna spray gas. When the pressure is relieved get under the rear of the car and slide to the front of the gas tank towards the front of the car and here is where the fuel filter is. Unclip the two retaining clips on either side of the filter. Slide ur fuel filter disconnect tool into the hose end...BUY THE TOOL> ITS $5 including tax and will make ur like easier and cleaner. Have a plasit bag or a bucket or something handy to put the old filter in because its gonna leak a little gas. Put the new filter in place with the flow going towards the drivers side.Clip the hoses back on. Reclip the retaining clips. u can lower the car, reconnect the battery and ur done.

Thanks for all the info. I went from thinking what the hell is a schrader valve to being a pro fuel filter changer.

You can remove the fuel filter without the disconnect tool but why would you? The disconnect tool is cheap and it does the job correctly without damaging anything else. To cut off the fuel I go into the trunk and disconnect the wireing harness to the fuel cutoff switch on the driver's side behind the paneling. Then I run the car for a few seconds till it dies. Do it right and don't risk screwing things up.

Dad and I did it today, but we didnt disconnect the battery. It wasnt that hard, we had the little plastic tool things and Im thinking my fuel filter has been on for a while. (~67,000 miles Im thinking) The car seems to run smoother and the idle also seems to have smoothed up a bit as well. We also finally got to see how must the previous owned SCREWED up the right side exhaust from the muffler back. Oh well.
