fuel pressure regulator

I've noticed a fuel leak under the thingy with the screw on top to adjust the fuel pressure(this is the correct way right?) Does any one know if this is a common problem with the regulators or what is underneath that and could be leaking...it's getting pretty bad, so far I've gotten about 60 miles to half a tank using premium

it does sound like the regualator. have you pulled the vac line and checked it for fuel (when the diaphram inside the regulator goes, it can leak into the vac line)?

clean everything up and check it. i would NOT drive or run the car like this - that is a huge FIRE hazzard.

Good point. There is a seal from the regulator to the lines and then they can internally leak, many makes sell rebuild kits.

Could also buy a cheap fuel pressure gauge and put it on the shrader valve to test the system out and see if it holds pressure and if it adjust accordingly with vacuum.

60 Miles to half a tank? That means you're leaking around 5 gallons of gas for every 3 you use?!?!? Sounds like you're driving a bomb around! Park the car and order yourself a Kirban FPR and a gauge of some kind so you can tune it in....it sounds like along with the leak you're fpr is probably going out on you, I can't see you leaking that much gas....but I'm not there, so who knows! For your sake, I hope you're not

Thanks for the help guys. I took it to a mechanic(someone I know and trust) and he found a hole in the fuel rail where it had been rusted out. He said ford is known for having weak fuel rails. So I'm replacing both fuel rails and all the injector seals just in case. Thanks again

im very glad to hear you took it to the mechanic - what he says sounds very possible. good man (you) for taking care of it so soon!

new injector O-rings and pintle caps are a great idea while swapping the injectors from one rail to another. the kits are around 3-4 bucks each (need 8 kits) from the local parts house (just to give an idea of cost). money well spent.
