Fuel pump eccentric

OK, I just haven't seen this answered.
I am putting an 81/2 5.0 motor in my 67 XR7.
I have the 50 oz. imbalance balancer. I have the right flywheel for the small C4 bellhousing. I have a higher than stock stall speed torque converter.
My question is:
Will a two piece eccentric power the mechanical fuel pump arm? I'm trying to dial in the tune on the motor, and it isn't getting any fuel. I don't know if the pump failed, or if the pump isn't getting actuated properly. Of course it runs rich when I poor fuel in the carb, but it isn't keeping itself primed.
I did not use the early timing cover, it is a carbureted motor. Other than the lack of fuel. it seems to be doing fine. I am planning on only using the engine for a 'short while', meaning the car isn't going to be put into regular service any time soon.

disconnect fuel hose from carb, have some empty container handy, have someone crank the engine a few times and if there is no fuel coming likely your fuel pump is bad. I guess it cannot be inserted improperly. All sbf's after 1972.5 use 2-piece eccentrics.

The ****ing fuel pump eccentric bolt backed out. :-(
So, after I put the bolt back in, with some blue loc tite, I'm trying to figure out my foofy timing problem.

What else acts like crossed plug wires?

I'm glad I didn't actually put any "speed parts" in this motor. I pulled it out of an 82 Bronco, and other than a few reliability items, specifically new timing gear set, reluctor and magnetic pick up, and a new ARP oil pump drive shaft and pump, I left it alone.

The motor has been doing better the longer it runs. I think I had it on a stand for over a year, plus how ever long it sat on the car lot.
It does seem to smoke after it warms up a bit, but I can't determine if it's old or new oil and gas that is being burnt up.
This poor car has sat for waaaay longer than it's been on the road for the last 21 years...

Well an 81-82 5.0 motor wasn't the finest in the 40 year run of em. Not much you can do with one in terms of build up. Weak block & crank, no roller provision, bad heads etc.

Given that the bolt for the fule pump eccentric had loosened off, was any damage done to the pin and or pin hole in the gear,
is the cam gear now actually tightened out of place by a couple of degrees??

There was no visible damage, the chain is new,so there was no slippage....
