fuel pump help

hi guys i have a ? that i need some help on i have a 84 turboGT that i was just given for free and i know that it runs as i started it on eather but i need to know how the rest of the drivetrain is but someone has cut out the stock high press fuel pump and i wold like to know how the rest of the car (T-5 posi rear end ect..) works before i tear it apart and was wondering if you know can i use a fuel pump from a efi V8 stang that runs one (1) high press intank pump where my car has two (2) one low press intank and one high press inline pump?? and if i can do i just pull out the low press intank and put in the high press pump and just bypass the inline pump?? or what do i do kind of new to these turbo cars thanks for the help Smokey

your talking about the efi hi pump off a mid 80's truck?

well the pump i was thinking about is the one from a late 80's early 90's 5.0 stang as they both run like 39psi the 84 runs 39 with the two pumps and the later ones run 39 with the one pump

but this is a yes that i can do this ? and do i just by pass the inline pump? with some rubber fuel line W/two clamps at each end??? thanks for the help

Get the one from a 85-88 F150 it is an in line,you must also run the "feeder pump in the tank, or you will not get enough fuel flow to do more than idle,

all the ford inline pumps run 80psi or better the the pressure is droped at the fuel rail by the fuel press reg, down to 39-43 psi

do not use the "cheap" rubber fuel line, that is made for carbed car fuel pressures, If you MUST run a rubber line make sure you ASK and GET EFI rubber fuel line, Its about $5.00 a foot, This is a must on the outlet side if the HI press pump, but if all ya going to do is test, you can use cheap hose from like a gas can to the inlet side of the pump.

all single in-tank-pump efi mustangs use an 88 lph pump despite the engine size. Using a single single high pressure pump (like most efi stangs) in the tank should work for your car. I don't know if the later model high pressure pump is the same physical fitment as the low pres. intank pump, but making it fit shouldn't be hard. Also, you'd have to connect the fuel line together where the old high psi pump was or get fuel lines off another car that had the single pump.

turbobeater you got a desoto with a Hemi? cool but anyway anyone know what all cars/trucks i can get a frame mounted fuel pump from? any other brands? dodge gm?? just need some thing to get the fuel press to test the motor non of my local u-pull-its have any from 85-88 rangers or bronco2's

Yeah, i've had the desoto for about 4 years. bought it with 36,000 miles on it, but old motor spun a bearing so i dropped the 392 in it a few summers back. I'm pretty sure that pre-87 cougars/thunderbirds have the same high/low pressure fuel pump setup as your mustang, so you could try those. At least, i know that the turbo ones did, but not sure about the other motors. Might be worth taking a look at any other efi fords you can find made around 82-86, esp rear drive cars. I don't think there are too many efi ones though. You could also try using a high pressure intank pump on the frame rail if you can't find anything else, but connecting it to the fuel line that comes out of the tank would be hard. If you only want to test it, assuming you have a high pres pump laying around, you could connect the high pressure pump to the fuel line going to the motor, and sit the pump in a can of gas, and the other fuel line coming from the tank/low pressure pump dumping the gas into the tank. Not the best way to do it but could work just to see if it runs.
