Hey guys yesterday i started installing the new fuel pump with my friend. Everything went smooth but now we cant get the new fuel pump to sit all the way in the tank and have the top of the pump seal nicely with the tank. Were very confused cause when i went to pep boys they asked if my car was from 4/94 and up or if it was older. Then i went to napa which is where i ended up buying it and they only had one pump listed and i got that. Could it be possible that the pump is wrong? we looked very close at the two and they looked identical. The tank is not entirely down, one side is dropped and the other side is still suspended by the pipe which fuel is poured in. Sorry if i dont sound like i know what im doing, cause i kind of dont. my friend is the mechanic, im just trying to figure out the problem

Dude, I had the same problem but it's not the pump. The whole assembly has to sit in the middle of a little "compartment" inside the tank and you have to twist and turn it until it goes in. Be sure not to bust a line or anything, but it does involve some hand work. Bring the whole tank down and you'll have better access.

He's right theres a place where the sock at the end of the pickup tube is supposed to go and it only fits one way. Get a flashlight and shine in there and this should give you a better idea of how it goes in but don't force it or it may break!

hey thanks guys, i was figuring there must have been some kind of compartment inside. i'll drop the tank and take a look, hopefully that should get things done.

Yes, upon dropping the tank you will see the solution

Check in the "Official How To Thread" at the top of this 94/95 forum for a fuel pump writeup/tips.

Good Luck
