Fuel Pump Mounting

I am converting to an electric fuel pump to acommodate a serpentine belt on my 65 289 vert. Where is the best place to mount the pump? Is a relay needed to run it?

heres what i did

i made a bracket in a L shape it hangs down just in front of the tank and behind the rear end. it is mounted as low as the lowest part of the tank. also my pre fuel filter is mounted just above the pump. mabey i can get a pic for you.

also a relay is much safer than sucking 10 or so amps of current through a switch. so to me a relay is a must.

That is almost exactly how I mounted the Holley red pump on my '68. Don't get a Holley red or blue pump, BTW; they are loud.

Yes, it should be relayed. It should also have an inline fuse on the high current side.

My pump is bolted above the rearend. The bolt heads can be seen on the top in the trunk area. And yes I ran a relay.

Thanks, guys! I am looking at the Summit G3136 pump. Does anyone know if that is a noisy pump?

also i forgot

i used pieces of rubber beetween the bracket and the body of the car that kept the noise down alot more.

you can use a old sway bar end link bushing cut in half thats what i did.

I would expect that it is. It looks exactly like the Holley pumps, if that means anything.

I've had good, and very quiet performance, using a mallory comp pump model 110 for about 3000 miles so far. I originally had the holley red pump, but replaced it after 1 month because of the noise and limited fuel flow at high rpm.

As mentioned it's probably as loud as the Holley one, but my real concern is the Summit name. It might be a "Pro Comp" pump, a company known to sell Chinese copies of well-known products. I'd stay away.

Facet pumps are quiet for sure. Not exactly a popular name with car guys (at least in the US) but they're commonly used in aircraft. Facet is the European name; in the US they're sold under Purolator. Your local Autozoo should be able to order it for you.
