I did a search and went through a few pages but there is too much information that doesn't fit my scenario.

Lets see... Car ran fine, drove to work. Tried to start it when I left and the starter cranks but the motor doesn't fire.

I decided to move the key to the accessory position and give the pump a second to prime but I can't hear the pump at all.

I remembered you can run the pump by grounding a wire on the eec diag. so I tried that. At least I think you ground it?

So I know my problem is caused by the pump not running.

The pump was changed less than a year ago. What should I try when I go to the car tomorrow?

I have no knowledge of the pump wiring. I know to check the inertia switch and someone told me that it may be inline to the pump and I could try to power the pump directly from there. Also someone said the fuel filter could be my problem?

Thanks ahead of time

I drove my car up on ramps, changed my gas tank and went to drive it off and my pump wouldn't run/ Never had a problem before. Diagnosed it down to the fuel pump relay under the driver seat having a wire corroded off. In your case, I would check first to make sure nobody bumped it and tripped the inertia switch (red button under cover behind driver side taillight).

Hm.

I packed up every tool I thought I could possibly need and took another car out to the stang.

Before I did anything I tried to start it and it was just the usual starter turning but not firing. Then as I was letting off the starter to give up it fires and runs.

Seems to be doing fine. But of course this means sooner or later its going to do it again and I'll be stranded somewhere

Oh well, till then

Just one more thought before you go...
There have been a lot of posts recently on the fuel pump connector on the tank crumbling. That tends to leave loose wires on the fuel pump which can/do cause intermittent operation. You might want to check that out when you have time.

As a long shot, check the ignition switch for providing power in the start and run positions. If the adjustment gets off, or the contacts get worn, it will allow some stuff to work in start but not run, or run and not start. Sometimes when you switch from start to run, and the motor is spinning, they will catch and run. Old Mopars were notorious for this.
