Fuel Pump question...

Hey guys My fuel pump just died so i was looking at my haynes repair manual and it said that earlier SEFI cars have two fuel pumps a low pressure in tank unit and a high pressure pump outside the tank. I have an 87 so does that include my car? is it possible to switch over to the one fuel pump design? what would be my best course of action? and for a car that for now is stock but will be modded in the future (but remain a daily driver) what would be the best fuel pump to buy? thanks for the help!

Don't know what Hanes was smoking when he wrote that...but you only have one fuel pump, it's in the tank and will need to be dropped to get to it. Most pumps are from Walbro, depending on your future mods, you can go with any in-tank and be OK.

And Hanes needs to puff puff give!!!

That kind of thing comes up in manuals that cover so many variations of one car (half the book covers carbed stuff, etc).

As said, one in tank pump is it. Walbro (or a repackaged Walbro) is the route I would go.

Good luck.

yea i got a 255 Walbro i still need to install.

What do the stock pumps flow, cause i have fuel starvation probs. at higher rpms, really slows my car down a good bit.
Seems to me it is about 88 LPH (I have 88 LPH and 95 LPH for later models stuck in my head). Even if you assume it is a 95 (which I dont think it quite is), even a 190 is double and should support decent power. The 255 is way good to go. :nice:

Yea, i mean for everyday running here and there, its fine, but when i run it every once in a while, i try to resist, its to exspensive to replace everything i break. But when i do, its usually fine up to about 4,600 then the fuel pressure starts going down and the power starts weening off. By the time i get to 6,000 its aggrivating. I can still win at the strip against like stock 5.0's, imports, stock Camaro's etc. But i want this 225 in. :p
I have a fuel pressure gauge and if you watch it while the car goes faster and faster, you can see the pressure dropping down in it.
I used to have a 225, but it burnt up and i had the stock pump laying around, so i put that in there just to keep it running, and you can feel the power difference, its alot slower now. But i can't wait to put that 255 back in.
