fuel pump question

I stopped at the store this morning and the car was running fine. I get in my car and get ready to leave and the car will not start. I notice that the pump is not priming when I turn the key on. I checked the relay, popped it out and pushed it back in again just to see if it would help. It didnt. So the relay wasnt tripped to begin with. What should I check for before I go out and buy a new fuel pump?

what does the car do when you try to turn it on? just last week i had the same problem with my talon. it sat in a wal-greens parking lot for a few days, and they left a note on my car saying they were going to tow it if i didnt move it! so the next day i got a bunch of tools and what i thought was wrong with it (coal pack and M.A.F. sensor) and went to work in there parking lot. it took me about an hour but now it runs great!! now i realize you dont have a coal pack but you do have a distributer which i believe, correct me if im wrong, is the same thing. atleast its a cheaper way to start. good luck!

it's a 93. It has a coil pack. there is no prime from the pump, so I do not think it is a coil pack. I pulled code 542 which says is a secondary fuel pump circuit failure, whatever that means.
I dont think it is the ignition switch. all the acc. work. lights, radio. if the EEC relay was blown it wouldnt have pulled any codes. this is one of the few times I hate fuel injection.

Sounds like your fuel pump relay went out. Probe the Dark Green/Yellow wire in position 5 at the CCRM (box on the passenger strut tower) for voltage. That is the output that goes to the back of the car. It is common for it to fail.

Bring a short piece of heavy gauge wire with you. You can bypass the IRCM wiring by jumpering between the thick black w/ yellow stripe wire and the Thick Red wires in the plug under the driver seat. If that doesn't do it, it may be your fuel pump.

You already reset the inertia switch in the back of the car correct?

inertia switch has been reset. the green/yellow wire was reading like .5v when I checked it so I am going to put a new relay in and see if that will fix it.

You can't really replace the relay without changing the whole box. Give it a few wacks and see if the relay unsticks. Used to work for me until I replaced it.

holy crap!! are they the same for 4 and 8 cylinder cars? I am doing a v8 swap soon and this is the 2nd time in less than a month this thing has died. If the part is 4cyl specific the car can just sit there.

if you're changing the CCRM twice in a month, you should do a check on your electrical system to see what is frying them.

the first break down was unrelated, but if this is a 4 cyl specific part I am not willing to spend money on it at this time. I got it running last night. I followed GTPhreak's advice and gave it a good whack with a rubber mallet and it fired up. I dont trust it and I am unwilling to drive it and have the car leave me stranded if it craps out again.

i believe they are the same. i have 2 that i use for testing (one has a bad cooling fan relay the other a bad A/C compressor relay) and i've interchanged them on multiple ford vehicles.

when you get the new one ask the partsman to make sure it is interchangible with the v8.

yeah, I am thinking they are most likely the same. the 2.3 and the 5.0 pretty much have the same electronics.
