Hey guys, I've got a 1985 convertible lx, I'm redoing the fuel system on mine as I finally think I figured out the issue, but I was curious,

Is there a in-tank pump? Or is it just the inline pump beside the filter?

Odd... So I guess the previous owner had the pump fail and placed an in-line pump? Because I DEFINITELY have an in-line pump, it's right beside the fuel filter. I supposed it's time to properly replace the fuel pump in the tank and rip out the in-line?

Now I read some posts about swapping a 86 up pump but there was a bit of a discussion about the sender, I think they were speaking about the gauge sender.
The in line pump have factory looking wiring?

Hard to tell without getting it up off the ground, but I will say either the gauge or the sender doesn't work in the car because the fuel gauge doesn't move at all and i've got a yellow light for low fuel all the time. So I'm guessing my sender is bad as well.

Gauge sender is separate from the in tank pump
Might have a heavy float is all
Pull sender when you replace the in tank pump and inspect / test

I tested out the fuel pressure again today just to double check. When I turn the key into ON position the fuel pump kicks on everytime with no issue, and fuel pressure reads 35 PSI. I let it sit for about 20 minutes and it dropped to 15 PSI. I cranked up the car and watched the PSI gauge and it showed a steady 39 PSI, it wasn't bouncing around like crazy or anything so. Maybe I don't have a bad fuel pump. Maybe it's a bad fuel pressure regulator

What is the symptom of the car? If no symptom, I don't think you have anything bad (like the fuel pressure regulator) if it runs
25 is the spec for your 3.8's CFI (most are lower )(around 14)
Dropping to 15 is suspect (one of your 2 CFI injectors might be leaking / drizzling)

Right now it's surging a lot. It cranks up just fine it seems but surging a lot, bad throttle response almost dies out if you rev it.

Grab a vacuum gauge and see if you have a steady needle.
Check timing and make sure all electrical connections in the ignition system are good.
Check vacuum lines.
What rpm is it idling at?

The serp belt? I've replaced it and it's on there good. Not loose, not too tight. It's on proper.

I'll have to buy a vacuum gauge kit, but where's the best place to test for vacuum on these cars?

The vacuum tree at the back of the manifold or the vacuum manifold on the firewall.

Still waiting on my vacuum gauge to show up, but I also went ahead and checked the ohms for the fuel injectors They are reading 2.4 ohms and 2.7 ohms. Are they supposed to be low impendence injectors? or are these on the verge of death?
