What's up guys? I have not been on here in a while. But yesterday my car just started sputtering, then just wouldn't start. Well my fuel pump took a crap. I have been getting weird o2 sensor codes that have nothing to do with my x-pipe, cause i have MILS. not sure of the exact codes, but it's 2 codes that have to do with o2's. So I talked to tim and he said sometimes fuel pumps just go out and it might of had something to do with the codes. the funny thing is, when I fill my car up with gas, the SES light goes away, but then comes on later, then goes away, it's kind of a cycle. but everytime i fill my gas tank up the light goes away  Tim(cobra killer) contributed that to not enough fuel pressure and that would make the o2's read wrong. does that sound right? But anyway, this is gonna blow, they have to take out my whole damn gas tank to replace it, so it's gonna be around 690$ :( but whatever, it happens. What are your guys' thoughts on the o2's? And could driving around for a while with a bad fuel pump hurt my motor or heads? I have brand new Forged motor, brand new 03 heads etc etc, so just being cautious.

Driving around with a bad pump will probably cause some interesting problems - I would guess, based on my personal experience in the last week that you would trip codes with bad fuel pressure. The fuel rail pressure sender will send a low pressure signal to the EEC and the EEC will try to compensate by sending more voltage to the pump - my guess would be that if the signal from the sensor to the EEC does not match the voltage the EEC sends to the pump (or within a range) you'll get a fault of SOME kind.

If you're mechanically inclined and have the space you can swap your own fuel pump with relative ease.

I'm not going to argue with white99gt, because he knows what he's talking about when it comes to this stuff - but Tim should can get you a high flow/high pressure pump that will work in your car with a few bucket modifications - the pump is pretty easy to replace if you're careful around the fuel.

I have had my tank down TWICE in the past three weeks - I had what I thought might be pump issues and dropped the tank a couple times.

Do it yourself and it goes from $300 or so, parts and labor down to about $130 in parts (the pump) - $690 seems pretty ridiculous, though. Vortech has a VERY helpful installation guide for our 99+ GT's.

One More Thing....

One more thing... if you see the SES light - do a quick DTC check - turn the key to the on position while holding down the trip/odometer button - when the odometer reads test let off the button - cycle through the readings by pressing the trip/odometer button. If you see a dtcp041 (I believe - I KNOW it's 41) it indicates a lean condition being reported by the O2 sensor.

Low fuel pressure could equate to a lean condition, which could trip the light... am I right fuel system gurus???

Where's Sam98 when you need him, too!
