Fuel Pump took a crap, have some questions....

for 600 you can get the cobra setup and do it your self.

But on topic.Is it the original pump?Miles? if should still be under warrenty if the mileage isnt to high(36k).


A bad pump could hurt you if you where blown,but in n\a, i dont think it could have hurt you .

Driving around with a bad pump will probably cause some interesting problems - I would guess, based on my personal experience in the last week that you would trip codes with bad fuel pressure. The fuel rail pressure sender will send a low pressure signal to the EEC and the EEC will try to compensate by sending more voltage to the pump - my guess would be that if the signal from the sensor to the EEC does not match the voltage the EEC sends to the pump (or within a range) you'll get a fault of SOME kind.

If you're mechanically inclined and have the space you can swap your own fuel pump with relative ease.

I'm not going to argue with white99gt, because he knows what he's talking about when it comes to this stuff - but Tim should can get you a high flow/high pressure pump that will work in your car with a few bucket modifications - the pump is pretty easy to replace if you're careful around the fuel.

I have had my tank down TWICE in the past three weeks - I had what I thought might be pump issues and dropped the tank a couple times.

Do it yourself and it goes from $300 or so, parts and labor down to about $130 in parts (the pump) - $690 seems pretty ridiculous, though. Vortech has a VERY helpful installation guide for our 99+ GT's.

One More Thing....

One more thing... if you see the SES light - do a quick DTC check - turn the key to the on position while holding down the trip/odometer button - when the odometer reads test let off the button - cycle through the readings by pressing the trip/odometer button. If you see a dtcp041 (I believe - I KNOW it's 41) it indicates a lean condition being reported by the O2 sensor.

Low fuel pressure could equate to a lean condition, which could trip the light... am I right fuel system gurus???
