Ok today driving home the car wasn't revving at all over 2800 rpms at WOT. If I were to gradually go into it it would slowly climb up, but very slow. Had no problems like this before today either. Well my fuel pump has been extremely loud for the fast few weeks or so.. Like I can stand an easy 10 feet away from the car and hear it hum over everything else.. The pump is less than a year old, its a Walbro 255 lph pump. I got home and hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to it and it would sit right about 39-42 psi idling and such. Turn the car off and it don't drop at all. So I kept it hooked up and took it out for a drive and when you start to go into it more the psi begins to drop. At WOT the fuel pressure was sitting at only 20 psi and the car would just sit there and bog down.. but in the lower rpms is anywhere from 35-45 like usual.

I also have the codes 87 and 96 but I think I know what they are from and don't think that they are my problem. The new pump is the only thing I have done to the fuel pump circuit and I really don't want to have to do another..

Oh and the fuel filter is less than 1k miles so I know thats not the problem either..

What do you guys think? Did I get a pump with a short life? Or could it be something else?

Check

Check your plastic lines on the passenger side down by the front sway bar, make sure they are not bent/kinked. Make sure the vac line going to the fuel pressure regulator is not cracked and is on nice and tight. Also check to make sure there are no fuel leaks and that the line from the regulator is dry and doesnt smell like fuel.

This may be a dumb question but you don't have the filter in backward or anything like that correct?

Also check the voltage on the pink/black wire coming out of the relay under the drivers seat.

Also, both the codes you have are fuel pump circuit failure codes. :notnice:

I've already replaced the plastic lines with rubber fuel injection hose cause it was having that problem before. Also the fuel filter is in right, and I just double checked it yesterday to see if it was bad from some bizarre thing and it was pouring out clear.. I know the line ain't cracked, but ill check for the fuel smell and such in it tonight.

Im pretty sure the two codes are not whats causing it. My car has been doing thing weird thing that I can't seem to figure out, at random times when it is running all the gauges will do a quick drop and come back, the fuel pump cuts out for a split second, and lights dim down and everything.. it never really affects the performance of the car, but is kinda annoying.. but im pretty sure that is what is causing the fuel pump codes.
