Fuel Sender replacment time?

My guage is starting to read all over the place on my 91 stang. I know that this is a common problem problem among stang owners, but where do I go about getting a new one and how do I install it? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

i think you can get it at auto zone or any parts store, as far as changing it you got to drop the fuel tank and take the old one out and put a new one in shouldnt take but about 2 hours if the tank is empty and i would replace the filler neck gasket too well you have the tank out but you can only get that gasket from ford and it is 25 bucks

did this not to long ago. auto zone/advanced auto/pep boys does not have them around here. had to go to ford paid 60 dollars with my dad freight discount. used a air gun zipped the 2 cross tank brace bolts off. un did the filler neck bolts put a 2x4 under it dropped it with a jack then used a pipe to beat the circle ring around that hold it in there tight then she simple lifts right out and swap in the new one and it was as simple as that.1 hour if you take your time.

P.s while you are there hit that car up with a new fuel filter you can reach it so easy now. GOOD LUCK (my stock gas guage always read full before i switched it)

Sending unit ? Probably, but they also have what Ford calls a "slosh module" which was a gauge amplifier for the fuel gauge. If it went bad, so does your gauge's ability to read correctly. Have you considered taking an ohm meter to it?

Is there a kit that I can buy which will replace the whole thing?

Mine went out at around 180,000 miles. Maybe I got ripped, but I think I paid around $100 for the sending unit through FORD. Here's a tip though, since I didn't see a larger fuel pump in your sig. Get the 255lph pump to change at the same time. If you still have the stock pump then your engine at higher rpms.
