Quick question regarding the fuel tank on my '87 GT 'vert. We're in the process of redoing it and, after pulling out the fuel pump for replacement, we noticed that the fuel tank is in pretty bad shape - lots of rust etc. so Im going to swap it out but my question is what year fuel tanks will fit? Are all the 79-93s the same - also, will a tank from, say, a 4cylander or v6 also work or is it a different tank on the GTs (and convertibles)? Thanks for the help again guys.

Should be the same, I think the only difference with any of them, might be the fill tube, and the covers. But any tank from a 79-93 4cyl/v6/5.0 should work no problem.

79 and 80 tanks are smaller 13 gal and have larger diameter filler pipes, than 82 and up tanks which are 15 gal. Not sure of 81. The fuel pickup and gage sender are in the same unit on 79-82 carbed, but different in later ones, where the fuel pump and gage unit have separate openings. The 79 pickup will not fit an 82 tank. Filler necks from 82 to 93 interchange. The early and later tanks will fit the same straps.
I would get as late a one as you can. A new 82 Spectre tank was $105 at the zone a couple weeks ago.
