2006 MUSTANG GT VERT

FUEL VAPOR CANISTER.

Replacing my canister for the second time. First one lasted 9 years. Second one lasted 3 years.
Problem: can only fill tank to half-tank (about 9 gallons).
No codes, car runs fine.
Replacing canister solves problem.

Have read that a faulty gas cap can cause canister to fail (?) so replacing cap this time.
Car just passed smog, so don't know if cap needs replacing.

Bought my 06 new, it has 266,000 miles. Never changed the canister. When it won't fill I flip the nozzle upside down so the thing you squeeze is up top instead of under it. It fills up fine that way. Two or three tanks, then I don't have to do that again for a very long while. There has to be something to what I am doing and what you are doing. Perhaps the canister fills then clears again? You just speed that up by replacing it? Did the old canister seem heavier?

Thanks for your response.

Have tried positioning the nozzle in every way possible without success.
Did not handle canister after replacing, as the mechanic did the work, so can't report if canister 'gained weight'.
Canister arrives Saturday (11-10) from RockAuto, and will have it installed next week.

LOL, this jinxed me. Now I have the half tank issue again. Flipping the nozzle does help for me though. I may give a canister and cap a try, they have 266,000 miles on them.

Should have mentioned mileage is only 32,200. Having canister replaced today. Will report results.
If you intend to replace canister, research RockAuto for price. Found to be the lowest price, and fastest shipping.

Replacement of canister is quite simple, if you can raise the rear-end of the stand for access, and have a floor jack
to support canister.

Rockauto is a great source. Sometimes I take the part number from RockAuto and check it at Amazon, frequently the same price, but free shipping with Amazon. I'll watch for results. Thanks for the updates!
