Full 64 resto

through a series of fortunate events i came across an automatic straight six 64 1/2. this is going to be my first full resto. this car is in relatively great shape for how long it has been sitting out. currently it is not running. the last time it was running was in 2003. first things first. i replaced the solenoid and the battery. you can tell that it is dying to start but it just isnt firing. please help!! any ideas as to what I should be doing or the steps I am going to need to take to get this beauty started. i would rather do as much of it as i can myself instead of having to pay for someone else to do it. I cant wait to hear your thoughts! thanks

Did you drain the gas tank and purge the line of the old gas, change the fuel filter?

Are you getting a good spark?

Good luck with your restoration, are you leaving it a six? I swapped to an eight but if I had it to do over I would have rebuilt the six.

i did the same thing to mine. It was sitting for a while so i pulled the plugs and primed the cylinders with some oil then tried to start it. It wouldnt suck gas for some reason and we ended up pulling the tank and the fuel filter was corroded and clogged so we changed that and it started right up.

Good for you! Last summer at a large local show there was a 65 FB six green/green dlx. I was was glad he was in another class.

I once had old fuel gumming up the carb, causing a no start condition. Of course, I didn't know that until my friend suddenly, sharply hit the top of the carb's bowl with the end of a socket wrench and told me to turn the key. Then it started (and ran quite rough), and we knew where the problem was.

It's the big cylinder on top of the fuel pump.
