I work on cars alot. I do car work every weekend, and emergency stuff whenever I have to, so I get my fair share of different cars to work on. Something interesting that I have noticed was, almost every 98+ Volkswagen I have worked on smells like colored pencils inside. It really kind of weirds me out.

Another thing I noticed is, whenever I clean my car, the back ALWAYS gets dirty first. I can make the drive home from the spray and wash after spending an hour drying it off and cleaning the wheels, and the rear bumper cover, tail lights and back part of the trunk will be dusty once I get home. I don't know why this happens, but it really irritates me because water sometimes trickles out from somewhere in the back, and when I get home, there will be disgusting dirty streaks running down the back bumper. I just don't get it. Anyone else's car do that? Oh, the hood scoop water retention technique is another favorite. I will do cpr to the scoop to push out as much water as I can, and it will never be enough. it will always leak and splatter all over the place, after I get everything nice and dry. Time for a cowl hood, I guess.

oh that pisses me off.. the water comming from around the trunk seal leaking down.. i always have to take off the weather seal and clean all the dirt out from around there so it wont do that...

that colored pencil thing is funny..

think about it, you rear deck lid has four wheels kicking dirt up around it - while your front fascia has none.

That would make sense to me if there were more dust on the sides of the rear bumper cover, and maybe on the sides of the car a bit. It's always just the absolute very back end, and just the straight up and down parts. I'd elaborate more, but my retarded roommate just destroyed a toilet that he was standing on for some reason, and there's now a lake in my hallway.

your side panels have the wind/air flow brushing over them as your drive, most of the deck lid and bumper doesn't

um, just wash the car, and let it sit for a day or two. When the air rushes around the car as you drive, it swirls around the back of the car, making it dirty. Haven't you ever seen what the dirt does on a dirt road, it swirls around the back of your car. I am sure there are some wings and stuff that would midigate this.

there is a vacuum that is created when you drive pushing dust and dirt to the rear part of your car. there is no way to take care of that. Just dust it off or get some meguiars quick detail and a rag to clean it up once you get home.

It's important to remember that "dusting off" or wiping off dust on a dark color car such as black can really leave a **** ton of swirl marks and spider webbing. Zaino has a finishing application you apply after using the other products that contains an anti static. I have used it on dark cras and must say, It won't eliminate ALL of the dust but the cut down is drastic. Not to mention it's the best car care product I have owned.

kinda like doing a fuel pump on a Volvo

every time i pull the back seat out i find Cheerios, every time

speaking of mechanic stories, my old roommate was a mechanic. he had some good stories sometimes.

a lady came in for an oil change on her minivan. as she was dropping it off she said "oh can you check the brakes for me? they have been making some sort of noise." oh sure. so he puts the van on the lift pulls the wheels and what does he see? the brakes are bad.....the pads were gone, the metal backing on the pads scraping the rotor directly and you could see the fins of the rotor. when she was told she needed new rotors pads and calipers, she was upset but pretty much had to pay for it because the shop deemed the car unsafe to drive.

i just want to know how people can be so stupid

it has to do with how air flows around the rear bumper. When you are driving, it actually loops back towards the car as the air comes out from under the gas tank. As a result it picks up dirt and dust and blows it back onto the car.

Here is something funny, I live on a gravel road and when I was my car and it sits overnight evry morning the rer bumper/trunk/wing are dirty and the rest of the car is fairly clean. Doesnt matter if I back it in or pull it in its always the same. Its the damndest thing :nonono:

When I had my stock hood on when ever I drove the car after a wash I would put a towel in the scoop to catch the water. I also put two towels on the bumper where it closes on the bumper to catch the dripping water. LOL

I looked stupid but it worked.
