FUSE Problem

Everytime i put my gear in reverse my back up light and convertible top and airbag fuse goes out(15A) the fuse is #1 position. can anyone tell me what is wrong? or anyone experienced this problem?

thanks ;)

The back-up light switch is on that fuse, IIRC. Disconnect the back up light switch (only for diagnostics) and see if you can now actuate reverse without blowing the fuse. If so, chase the short in the back up light wiring (often a chafed or burned wire).

Good luck.

I replace the fuse. and it pops soon as i put it in reverse.
i can't see anything wrong with anywires in the back up light system. everything looks fine. my top goes up and down and i am able to make signals and my airbag light goes away soon as i put new fuse in. but AS SOON AS I PUT THE GEAR IN REVERSE "POP!!" fuse blows!!! it's getting annoying. please help!!!

I still stand by my above thoughts. There's power to the switch with the key on, and what changes is that when you put it in reverse, power is allowed to pass through the switch and go to the back of the car and back-up lights. The issue should be from the switch to the back up lights.

Good luck.

You first need to unplug the electrical connector to it and put the car in reverse and see if the fuse still blows. It should not.

Then trace wires to find the short. The switches occasionally crap out, but a short in the run of wiring is also quite likely. It just takes some time and visually going over things. A short finder with an audible alert can be helpful.

Good luck.

it turned out to be a back up light switch. i took it to ford to get it fixed. another $100 day. the switch itself costed me $55.22 so $40 dollar labor at the dealership isn't that bad i guess. plus they gave me a discount. if i were trying to fix it myself it would have took lot longer and i probably take the whole car apart to find the problem.

thank you for your help ;)
