Anyone running a G-force T-5 with dog rings setup?

Wondering what you think of them, how are their manners on the strip and street, and an over all feeling of them.

any insight is welcome

The straight cut gears will be very noisy. An example is the noise generated by backing up with a T5. The reverse gear is straight cut.

The best choice for a street/strip car is a TKO 500 or 600. They will hold the power, run quietly and shift good.

so you say someone should spend 1700 on a tko600 80 on a yoke, 300 on a clutch when they could spend 1500 and beef up a t-5 and hold the same or more power and it be a direct bolt on, how does that make any sense, sounds like to me it would be more trouble than its worth, and ud be spending more money!

Actually, I am very predjudiced: the TKO can't be beat for a street/strip trans. I have had a 3550 with 95K miles on it and no problems with shifting or breaking anything. When I do a full power shift, there are two things working for me: I never lift off the throttle to shift and I never worry about breaking anything. Tell me that your 95K mile G-Force can do that, if it will even last that long without breaking something.

If you go with a G-force you need to switch out the clutch, and yoke anyway because the G-force has added splines on the input and output shaft. It is a 26 spline like the TKO.

I am thinking of buying the G Force T5, and you will need a new clutch assy,26spline and yoke 31 spline.
I dont know how long it would last, its strong, but if you have a street strip car , maybe the Cobra R transmission,R58W could be ok ?

If you have a new and strong clutch assy, you dont have to install a new 26spline unit, using the R58W gearbox.( You need the 31spline yoke.)
Just me.

Might want to do more research.
G force tranny Kit is about $1000, then another $400 for the good mainshaft, which you don't need, but why spend a grand on other parts. $250 for g forces labor on the trans, but expect to pay more locally, or get banged for shipping. And then you'll still need a $300 clutch.
Notice they want $2,000 for a g force built with a used trans, and factory mainshaft, add the mainshaft to that and you are past what you would spend on a tko.

If you aren't going to do the mainshaft, just rebuild your stock t5, the stock way.

So you save on the Bellhousing and the yoke,
Big deal.

Someone here on Stangnet says "Never lift to shift" I am one of those who follow that advice. The Tremec 3550 & TKO are smooth and fast shifting boxes when properly broken in and the clutch is adjusted correctly. I'm still using the stock shifter and have no complaints.

Two locals have the TKO 600 and dont like the way it shifts. One has an LS1 S-10 and the other has a Vortech T Trim 347 93 Notch. The S-10 switched to a Powerglide and the notch had a 3550 before the TKO 600 and didnt have any problems. He switched to a C4 but will be going back to the TKO 600 or a T56 before long. I know a couple people with TKO 500's and they dont really mind them?

Anyone powershift a TKO 600??

I was looking at the G-Force, but after the comments on here, I am looking at a tremec.

Which one though??? Must be able to handle 600ft lb!

And powershift, smooth and fast!

Neither person I know with a TKO 600 can really shift it as fast as they want. The Notch had a 3550 before and he had alot less problems with the way it shifted.

I have a TKO 600, and i'm pretty tough on it, no problems shifting it. Took a few days to get used to it, then i was fine. As far as shifting it fast, i don't seem to have a problem with that either.
My problem is i don't like the gearing. That's why i tell everyone to use a 500 instead.

Well, my friend with the 347 Notch sold his today, it's getting a T56 if it gets another stick shift. The TKO 600 is going in a buddy's 93 F150 with a 351 that is killing the T5.
