G-Force Tranny rebuild vs. TKO

I'm into my TKO swap for right at $2000, but I got a good deal on my TKO. Double check the TRUE cost of putting in the G force rebuild. I truely don't know it, but I was under the impression that it was higher than that. Also, even with stronger internals, you still have the same case that is prone to either break or "move." This moving motion is what causes the two shafts to seperate (especially in 3rd) and makes the gears only mesh with the tips of the gears... this is normally what leads to the most common failure in a T5... 3rd gear.

I would figure closer to $1500 for the G-Force if you do the labor yourself, $1800 or so if you get one that has been converted already. I have a very recent quote for a TKO for about $2000.

Paul -- I don't think it's the case that's the problem, it's that the stock T5 shafts are weak, and they bend. 3rd fails because it's in the middle of the shafts and gets the least contact patch under load. The G-Force internals are stronger so they do not bend.

Thanks Dave. I have heard internet rumors of the cases still flexing though... but they may just be rumors.


The 3550 trans has the same main shaft as the T5.... that's somthing for those concidering it to think about. That is why I didn't get one of those... I bent three of them in my T5.

I'm about to buy a low mileage TKO for my car with a pro 50 shifter. $1,100 shipped, can't beat that I, personally think you cant go wrong either way, but for me buying a new tranny was just too much money. I like the g force and its .59 5th and the fact that its lighter. If I was buying new it would be between a tko 500 or a G force with the extras. Tough choice IMO and you dont need a new bellhousing or a shifter. I'm probably gonna get a mcleod blow proof and index it. I plan on using it with the 347 stroker I have planned so the tranny is gonna sit in my garage until I start the motor project. Should make it easier to index it. Instead of buying the 31 spline yoke for $79, I think im gonna get a 31 spline fms alum driveshatft for $200.
