G-Tech Question

I have a 2000 GT 5spd. I month ago i used a g-tech (the kind that plugs into your cig lighter and it lets you know 1/4 time) with my stock GT, another person in the car, and the tires were bald and ran a 14.1. I am running K&N Intake (whole tube) and flowmaster exhaust with o/r h-pipe and now 275 tires in the back. My question is, i was stock running a 14.1 with crappy tires but i see people all over the net saying they have 3.73 gears, all the bolt ons, chip ect and they run a 14.1 - 14.5. Why is that? Was my G-tech off or what? I ran it 3 times and they were all in between 14.0 - 14.2

what do stock GT's 5spd, with good drivers run in decent weather conditions?

i would be happy with that 14.1. i could not break below 14s in my car the last time i went to the track. I kept on hitting 14.1s and 14.2s also. but i was running with an exhaust leak and in about 98 deg south texas weather.

I've got an old school gtech so I have to do 1/4 mile run and then convert to 1/8 mile and it's fairly accurate. I'll be going to the 1/4 mile track sat and will be using the gtech then too so I can see how accurate it is. However I won't take the readings from the gtech as the end all answer to how fast you are use it as a tuning aid.

the new g tech is fairly accurate.. a lot of factors figure into what your car will run. weather, traction and skill being the biggest. i ran 13/9's out of mine with a K+N drop in and flows at new england dragway in good conditions. and i have run 13.9's on my friends new g tech...

a 99+ 5 speed with gears and the other mods you mentioned in decent weather can go mid 13's

ive done a 14.069 on the track and the g-tech said it was a 14.103 so its pretty close

Well I tried to use the gtech while running on the track. Didn't work out too well for me stupid thing fell off the windshield the 3 times I tried it. At least with mine I think the mph is too high because I was trapping the same mph with the 100shot now as the gtech said I was n/a.

Ya we figured that the mph is about 7 mph fast. The 1/4 mile time is right on though. I ran a 13.9 at the track and ran the same on the G-tech

Anyone got the autometer 2-1/16" D-PIC gauge? I just installed it on my car, it's cute! I don't know how acurate though....
There was a recent review of G-tech and another model in a car&driver issue, they're were not 100% accurate right but ok for daily use. Haven't seen any reviews on how the autometer performs yet.

I have tried it on several cars, and its pretty darn accurate. I level it on my garage floor, before I pull out onto the street. The QM is pretty much going to be exact, but the MPH are 3 mph error. Just subtract 3mph from your QM and its pretty much dead on. I have seen a lot of people that complain or say they suck..........but its always user error.
