gas gauge.....

Im starting to think my gas gauge is reading wrong. It reads but very low and wont go past half way also it was empty i went to fill it up not even 5 gallons it clicked over like it was full.....

could this be caused by the white face gauges or would it be caused by a sensor sometimes it will go up and down if i turn it off and start it back on ..

Sounds like the fuel sending unit.

is that the unit that plugs on the top of the gas tank? What all will i need to replace since im goign to have to get a new fuel pump figure i go ahead and change that and see if that works

Yes that is the other plug on top of the gas tank. I got mine from Ford for $67.26 Part #E7zz-9275-A. Also got a new filler neck seal while I was at it for $16.22 Part #F4zz-9072-DA. Mine did the same thing. It works perfect now.
