gas milage?

first how do u figure out the mpg?

and second... what is every one getting per tank

im getting less the 100 per half tank, havnt had teh chance to let it run down cauz of traveling to work and such

well....on our way back to piqua, take the back way (country roads ) 55mph speed limit's kept it around 60 a few passes were made so factor in a arouns 70 mph for a few seconds, a few stop sings here and there, then about 10 miles of in town stop and go.

i went 148 miles from this mark to close to this mark...

at 60mph my car sits right around 1,700 rpms.

You take the number of gallons it took to fill up divided by the number of miles driven on the last tank. I think...

I haven't figured up the mileage on my Capri or Notch in a while. My '04 last got 21 mpg though.

run your car down to E...its still got a reserve of like a gallon but that wont be factored in...fill it to Full and then drive...but before you leave write down how many gallons were put it...try to put it in even i.e. 10 gallons...drive...say you got 150 miles out of 10 gallons then you would do this to figure out your mileage...

miles driven divided by gallon put in, so

150/10= 15mpg's...

at least that's how i do it.

isnt the tank 14 or 15 gal?? wouldnt it be more accurate using teh tank size?

go to the gas station, fill up, and hit your trip button. drive for a while. go to the gas station fill up. divide the miles on your trip by the amount of gas you just put in. miles driven/gallons= average mpg
rinse and repeat, and you'll get yourself an accurate rating

As JGT said, Just fill it, drive it and refill it, noting mileage between fill-ups. Be consistant with the 'topping off' (i.e. dont do it and try to use the same pump and all that crap).

The gauges are too inaccurate to interpolate anything (e.g. one cannot say that if they get 100 miles on half a tank, they'd get 200 miles on a tank, and divide 200/15.4).
The tank holds 15.4 Gallons BTW.

Some people (Frankenstang) like to compute gallons per mile. This is actually catching on in some parts.

I can go 300-350 miles on a tank mixed driving, on they hwy I pulled close to 450.
I count days between fillups rather than mpg. If I can go 2 weeks without filling up I'm doing pretty good.

its a 5spd. both the tranny and the motor had a complete teardown and rebuild last year. before that it was seeing aout 250 to a tank

That's how to do it. Fill your tank, hit trip reset, drive and then when you go fill it again, divide the miles by the gallons you put in.

If you are running non-stock tires or very tall rear end gears (3.73's or 4.10's), your speedo will be off and this method will not be accurate at all.

Best i could squeak out of my 5.0 was 160 miles to a tank with 3.73's. Worked out to about 11-12MPG in mostly city driving.

In my 4.6L GT, i can't do any better than 175 miles to the tank city driving...and that's with me TRYING to get good gas milage. I know the 4.6's are supposed to be more fuel efficient than the 5.0's overall, but that's just sad.

On the highway, i've been managing 325 miles to a tank (Was about 13ish gallons on fillup) which is about 25MPG, which is what the window sticker says. I've tried to do better, but 25MPH is my wall with the GT. That's all highway driving, ultra low 0.63 ratio 5th gear and using cruise control and hovering around 1800-1900RPM the entire time. My work commute is 335 miles total, so usually on friday on my ride home, the low fuel light will pop on. It's gotten routine, and one day i'll see if i can get 350/tank...but i don't have the guts to try for it lol

You have to first determine if your speedometer/odometer is accurate. If you have non-stock sized tires, or non-stock gears, there is a good chance your speedo/odometer is off. Drive the interstate, and hit your trip odometer reset button just as you pass a mile marker. Drive for at least 10 miles (the farther the better). Note the miles driven as you pass the last mile marker.

The difference between the number of miles driven (mile markers) and the trip odometer reading, divided by the miles driven gives you the percentage of error in your odometer. This percentage must be factored in when figuring out your gas mileage.

A lot of people do a gear swap, then are amazed that their gas mileage stayed the same, or even went up. The fact is that they didn't calibrate their speedo at all, or didn't get it very accurate when they did, and the odometer is showing more miles driven than what is correct.

Exactly.

90-93 owners with 3.73's or higher have it worse as the 21 tooth white gear does not get the speedo exact. It is slightly off.

87-89 owners with 3.73's and higher have more accurate speedos, but even still it's off slightly.

I'd say the vasy majority of Fox Mustangs out there have inaccurate speedos, so sometimes the fuel numbers can be off.

my speedo is 100% spot on.....when it says 25mph im going 25mph..when it says 65mph im going 65mph... stock gears, and wheels...works for me...(radar gun verified)

That's why though....stock gears and wheels. It's supposed to be accurate

yeah...with 16" wheels its about 2 mph off...

i figured it would be more off for being a 20 year old car.

you should hit the trip button right at a mile marker on the highway if youre gonna do a long trip (the higher the better... ie 100 miles) and see how off your odometer is. Then figure out the percentage difference. Then you can use your odometer, just figure in the percentage difference.
