Gas Milege?

I have a 96 v6 mustang convertible auto, what would you expect my gas milege should be? Ricght now i get an avereage of about 200 miles +/- 5 to the tank and it is a 16 gallon tank so its about 12 MPG is that horrible and is there something wrong, or is it just old age or what?

Are you running the tank absolutely dry(ie: running out of gas)? Chances are there's still a gallon or two in there.

Do this, fill the tank all the way and reset the trip odo. Then the next time you fill up note how many miles you went and how much gas you had to purchase. That's the proper way to do it.

Yeah, 12 is bad MPG. You should be running at least 300 to 350 miles on a full tank depending on you having a light foot.

But if your idea of go is full throttle, pedal to the floor at every light and stop sign, yeah..12 sounds about right.

I'm still skeptical about the calculations. I don't even know if 12 is possible with a healthy engine and transmission. I used to drive my Auto V6 pretty hard and it always got 18-20.

300-350 sounds high though. Do you have a stick? He's got a 4r70w. I'd say around 275 if you throw in some highway miles.

Must be drivin' in Chicago Simple maintenence will improve your mileage (new air filter, check and change plugs as needed, new fuel filter, run a fuel system cleaner, etc).

WTF????? I'm rolling around at 25 mpg, roughly about 305 miles per tank, and I'm supercharged with big injectors

Well the Mustang has a 15 gallon tank, so if you get 305 miles, that's more like 20 mpg, but anyway 12 is way too low. Have you checked the trunk for 1000 pounds of lead bricks?

No...its auto. I set the trip meter when I fill up and it reports 325 to 350. I'm pretty much stock with only dual flows and a K&N drop in filter.

My guess would be fuel filter. I had the same thing happen to mine. Follow Adverse2Change advice and you will be enjoying your car much better.

I get 300-350 all day long as well.

I just changed the plugs in our '02 V6 Manual and my wife got 21mpg in mixed driving.

haha, my 4 banger has the power of that 6cyl and i get 36 hw and 28 city

buy a 4cyl and fix it up, real cheap and GREAT on gas if its a real concern of yours

No way, I don't even acknowledge 4 bangers as Mustangs. Same goes for those fugly Bronco II's when I drove a Bronco.

ive been gettin crappy gas mileage lately.. started last month when i drove to villanova to visit my sister. 20 mpg ALL highway. its stayed around 18-20 since then, i personally think its the ethanol in the gas because a couple of months ago i was getting high twenties consistently. at least it makes the gas cheaper

On one of the tv shows (cant remember which) they were dropping a v8 into a new Focus. I wish they would do that with mine!

Motor Trend did that a few years back.. August 2004. They had a 500 hp V8 Focus vs a Lamborghini Gallardo. It had a 5.0 in it, and here's how the numbers went:

Focus: 0-60 4.4 seconds, 1/4 mile 12.7 @ 113.7 mph
Lambo: 0-60 4.3 seconds, 1/4 mile 12.5 @ 116.7 mph

I thought it was cool; just the thought of how it would look to see a FOCUS?? stay hanging in there with a freakin Lamborghini down the dragstrip..
