Gas Price Woes!...

Gas here in Ca is on the cusp of $4 per gallon. It is hoverig right around 3.75-3.90 right now. Friggin Diesel is $4.50

Like all others have said, it sucks. The money I would spend on a sportbike that would satisfy me could fill my car up many times. I think I will just keep driving the stang until I get a 4 banger pickup DD that Ive been wanting. The bike will come later in life when money is laying around more. On another note, I have no doubt that gas will reach $4/gal this summer.

There is no public transportation here, I already checked. After looking at the want-ads, I can pick up a "beater" bike for around 2K, and insurance for 6 months is like 500, so for 2500 bones I could be all set. The bike would just about pay itself off after 1 year of riding in the summer months.

Unfortunately, my girlfriend is 100 percent against bikes and is firmly putting her foot down on this one. She's an ER nurse so its hard to argue with her. I wouldn't mind a smaller commuting car, but they won't give me crap for my F150 (already checked) and by the time the car payed itself off with gas mileage it would be around 9 years, and since I already own the F150 outright, I'm stuck with the old pig.

Plus its awfully hard to fit 3 guys, shotguns, a black lab, and a john boat in a Honda Civic, and take it off road.

driving 60 miles a day is really out of question on a bike. it already takes me about an hour each way, no way am i going to bike that. there is no public transportation for me to take, the only thing i'd want to do would be car pool, but i can't find anyone. and that has its disadvantages too. i'm spoiled now with not having a set time to come into work as long as i make my 40 hours. working around someone else's schedule would be a pain in the arse.

now i did just get a second job at lowes to help with buying the car stuff i want to get, that i could bike to, which i've thought about it, but its only like 2 miles/5min away, its just not worth it.

LOL, but I know for a fact that you can fit 3 guys and a yellow lab with guns in the trunk in a 1990 Grand Am and get it stuck in the mud around a rock quary in Iowa!!!

Diesel national average is already above $4... And well I dont think the Bus idea is going to be worth it yet. However I Am looking to buy a bicylce. That would be great excersize! only about 20 miles from work I could do that on a bike.

Im 19 miles from work, takes me a 1/2 hr driving. 20 miles is a long distance on a bike.

Gas is just getting ridiculously out of hand. Those greedy bastards must be absolutely rolling in the profits. Us car guys are hit hard because we need fuel for our hobbies, not just transportation. Even though its spring now i've still been driving my jeep 95% of the time because it does 5-6 mpg better than the mustang and i can run 87. My dad has a harley 1200 that he never rides so ive been taking advantage of that lately. Next year i'll be commuting to UMD 33 miles each way...not looking forward to that gas bill...

This is ridiculous, tonight gas went up to $1.29/L (assuming equal CND and US dollars, as is now) thats like $4.90/gal!!!!!!
This is just ridiculous...

I just checked to find a bike route and its only 13 miles. Thats a peice of cake on a bicylce. Plus no traffic, lmao.

Score! My buddy has a 1974 Suzuki 450 that is sitting in his garage that he just got running again. I was talking about gas prices with him last night and he said being that he bought a new bike, and I can ride the old one whenever I want this summer. Its ugly as hell, but cheap transportation!

My girl puts her foot down firmly at a motorcycle, plus I dont think I could ever feel comfortable on a motorcycle as a DD though of course I have ridden them before. Its a curse in my family that EVERYONE who has ever had a bike has gotten into accidents on them, and of course accident not being their fault, always thanks to some jack ass who doesnt deserve a license but thankfully they all where fine.

20 miles is not bad on a decent bike. I slapped some road tires on my old mountain bike and converted it to single speed becuase I like pain. I do 18 miles each way three times a week and on fridays, I do 30 miles after work. I'm getting a nice bike today actually, but even on the old mountain bike I can pedal along at 20mph if there isn't too much headwind. It's downhill to work from my house, so it's about 55 minutes in the morning and about 1h10m at night. All the while, I don't have to deal with traffic since we have plenty of bike lanes and paths. I'm not even in particularly good shape but I've done 1200 or so miles in the past 3 months.

Yeah that's pretty cheap, but would you REALLY want to commute on a BMX? 13 miles on a BMX would be painful, and not in the good way. I picked up one of these . . . for pure speed

Thats true, bmx bikes aren't exactly long distance bikes. But I plan on working pretty close to home. Plus, I can do tricks on my bike! lol

Yea I figured more along the lines of like a mountain bike with road tires. But also I just finished looking online for like a geo metro 5 speed or a 5 speed civic vx Both of which get 50+mpg city!! That would work for me.
